I. Program Description:

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have funded a three-year project which will provide technical support to two Agriculture Technology Demonstration Centres (ATDC) in Mozambique and Zambia. The goal of the project is to improve the effectiveness of the Chinese funded ATDC’s as technology and innovation hubs, making them key contributors to country led, inclusive agricultural transformation.

The project includes two core components; the first will support the ATDC leadership and staff to build their management capacity and strengthen organizational functions and the second component will enhance the ATDC’s capacity to identify, demonstrate, and pilot transformative technologies in key value chains. In Zambia, the focus will be on the indigenous poultry (free range or village chicken) value chain which was selected after a study was conducted on behalf of the ATDC. The project involves significant stakeholder engagement of value chain actors including the private sector, NGOs and Government ministries and institutions with the University of Zambia (UNZA) playing a significant role as the primary partner.

II. Position Description:

The Agriculture Technology Specialist is a three-year project funded position. The position will be housed at the ATDC with the first year’s employment through TechnoServe. To align with the goal of ensuring sustainability of the centre, the subsequent years of employment will be through University of Zambia with the vision of continuing beyond the life of the project.

The Agriculture Technology Specialist will be responsible for the introduction of the four-step ATDC Technology Transfer Model for the Agricultural Technology Demonstration Centre program in Zambia.

The Agriculture Technology Specialist’s role is:

  • To identify, test, and evaluate improved technologies and models;
  • To support the ATDCs to engage with local research institutes, private sector companies, and NGO projects to identify, test, and evaluate existing technology solutions which might be a good fit with SHF needs;
  • To develop and disseminate training-of-trainers (TOTs) programs and materials on selected technologies;
  • To support capacitation of ATDC to implement ATDC Technology Transfer Model (TTM) process, including the development of various frameworks and tools;
  • To engage in dissemination of results from the TTM to relevant stakeholders; and
  • To support development of communications regarding results of technology demonstrations and broader ATDC communication needs.

Specific core responsibilities include:

  • Be part of the design of the Industry Strategic Plan (ISP) for indigenous poultry and manage its implementation;
  • Identify relevant technologies to demonstrate and pilot for the indigenous poultry sector;
  • Conduct and manage the smallholder farmer needs assessment; develop data-sets and facilitate the poultry assessment on behalf of ATDC;
  • Develop training materials and participate in the training of farmers taking part in the Project;
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of demonstration plots and assist to determine the technologies which will be piloted;
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of the poultry pilot which will contribute to the strategy to scale-up implementation;
  • Assist the Program Manager in the implementation of program strategy and activities in accordance with overall programmatic practices (donor relations, communications and visibility, special projects, reporting); and
  • Assist in the effective monitoring and evaluation of program activities including monitoring farmer demonstration and pilot plots.

III. Skills & Experience

Qualifications & experience

  • Zambian citizen or right to work in Zambia;
  • Degree in agricultural science with a specification in animal husbandry or related discipline, Masters preferred;
  • 5 years of experience working in the agriculture sector, preferably in the private sector
  • Proven experience working in the poultry value chain with knowledge in poultry production and preferably directly with indigenous (free range) poultry;
  • Strong knowledge of general agribusiness in Zambia and working with small-holder farmers (SHFs);
  • Strategy development and implementation, and development of strategic partnerships is an added advantage; and
  • Previous experience working in a multi-cultural environment; knowledge of Chinese culture / language is an added advantage.

  • Strong analytical skills, including quantitative;
  • Demonstrated capacity to produce high quality reports in English;
  • Proven ability to create buy-in and build consensus among colleagues and stakeholders;

Regional Coordinator

The main purpose of this role is to assist the Health Services Department with the smooth running of the assigned Region through provision of high level administrative and logistical support to the Outreach teams and Copperbelt Support Office. Duties will range from developing effective office systems, acting as a point of contact with the Outreach teams and other departments, organising internal and external meetings and events, collating and processing expense receipts, assisting with the production of monthly financial and narrative reports, overseeing procurement and stock management and all other administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Administration

  • Prepare monthly cash requests for all teams using standardized reporting templates
  • Assist with the re-coding of account codes for SUN system, filing accounting documents and the monthly closure
  • Accurate bookkeeping, record and identify all transactions with the relevant codes
  • Report all discrepancies and variations to the Outreach Manager/Finance Department
  • Oversees all team retirements for completeness, validity, sign-off/authorisation and on-ward handover to the Accountant for SUN processing
  • Monitor project team expenses and implement cost cutting measures and produce quarterly reports for the Health Services Director
  • Develop a tool to ensure that he/she is aware of all team staff accounts that need retiring.

2. Stock and Asset Managemet

  • Oversee procurement management on all teams as agreed with the Clinical Services Manager
  • Oversee project stock management on all teams and ensure that all monthly processes around balancing team stocks to SUN are adhered to – this includes ensuring teams conduct monthly stock counts
  • Use standardized reporting tools to monitor stock usage against outputs on all teams. This is to be achieved in liaison with the Monitoring & Evaluation Manager
  • Ensures all movements of assets are authorized and properly managed; and submit record of movements to the Finance Department
  • Ensures that all fixed assets that are not in usable condition are reported to the Finance Department

3. HR and Office Management

  • Coordinates team activities with resources, equipment and information required for the smooth operation of the Outreach teams
  • Assign tasks to teams and assist with schedule management as agreed with the Health Services Director and the Outreach Manager
  • Manages all logistics on all teams (i.e. transport, communication, internet, programs etc.)
  • Use standardized reporting tools to monitor fuel usage against mileage covered on all team vehicles
  • Use standardized reporting tools to monitor team working hours, leave schedules and any other team member plans so as to ensure a continued work-schedule on all teams
  • Create and maintain copies of all comprehensive team documentation, plans and reports.

Skills and Experience

  • Degree in business, management or related field, with accounting knowledge
  • Experience in working with statistical and financial data
  • Must have excellent communication/interactive skills and must function well independently, as well as part of a team
  • At least 3  years of  experience in a senior administrative position
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English; and knowledge of one or more local languages

Senior Malaria Technical Advisor



Jhpiego is a key partner in the USAID-funded Program for the Advancement of Malaria Outcomes (PAMO) contributing to Zambia’s National Malaria Elimination Strategy 2017 – 2021. The Senior Malaria Technical Advisor will provide technical and program oversight and direction in the areas of malaria case management and malaria in pregnancy for PAMO. PAMO will – 1) strengthen malaria prevention and case management activities at health facilities and community level; 2) build management capacity of the district and provincial level to provide oversight/supervision of malaria interventions; 3) improve data reporting, analysis, and use for decision-making by strengthening the HMIS and 4) empower communities to take ownership of the malaria problem and work with governmental and non-governmental entities to control malaria in their communities. The program will operate over the remaining three-years of the original five-year project at national level and in four provinces (Eastern, Luapula, Northern, and Muchinga).

This position will ensure the technical and methodological soundness of malaria in pregnancy and case management activities and, in collaboration with the project team and partners, support the design of service delivery strategies, based on sound and current scientific evidence.


  • Provide strategic technical direction within PAMO by coordinating the development of the technical aspects of program implementation approaches and ensuring appropriate consultations with stakeholders at all level
  • Provide general technical support to the National Malaria Elimination Program in malaria case managementand malaria in pregnancy, including developing case management and MIP tools, participating in technical working groups, and providing technical leadership
  • Collaborate with NMEC and MoH staff to strengthen quality improvement and supervision systems for malaria interventions
  • Proactively problem solve technical challenges which may arise during program implementation and when necessary draw upon the expertise from Jhpiego’s team of in-country and headquarters specialists
  • Coordinate the program Malaria in Pregnancy Specialist and Provincial Coordinators to plan for, provide technical input in and monitor activity implementation
  • Contribute to the output harmonisation of the program
  • Represent PAMO in malaria technical sub-committees and other meetings as agreed with PAMO Technical Director
  • Represent PAMO in relevant workshops or conferences as agreed with the Technical Director
  • Act as program resource point for relevant technical issues in the areas of malaria in pregnancy and case management
  • Ensure that program M&E data and lessons in malaria in pregnancy and case management are collated, analysed, interpreted and used to inform programmatic decisions
  • Document program achievements in MIP and CM and proactively have these shared through various channels such as written program updates and peer reviewed journals
  • Work with Jhpiego’s Malaria Director and PAMO Technical Director to ensure that technical support needs of the program in MIP and CM are identified and handled in a timely manner and to high quality

Required Qualifications

  • A medical degree, degree in health specialty (nursing, pharmacy) or Master’s in Public Health or other relevant degree
  • At least 7-10 years’ experience applying malaria programs and or community malaria programs
  • Experience training health workers on clinical aspects related to malaria case management and malaria in pregnancy
  • Experience building capacity at individual and organizational levels
  • Skill in at least two or more of the following technical areas: strengthening service delivery programs, training, performance and quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience with a mix of practical technical skills in malaria necessary for strengthening malaria service delivery at the provincial, clinical and community-level
  • The ability to liaise with senior MOH officials and dignitaries, executives of NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, the for-profit business community, and senior members of the donor community;
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of Zambia healthcare system, particularly the public health system
  • Demonstrable analytical skills and experiences to identify and evaluate best practices and state-of-the-art approaches to be utilized by the project
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentations skills
  • Familiarity with USAID, management and reporting procedures and systems
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple projects/tasks, short deadlines, competing deadlines and intense pressure to perform
  • Ability to interact with established networks of senior level international health professionals, donors, universities and other partners
  • Appreciation for socio-cultural differences in countries, preferably having lived and worked in one or more low resource settings
  • Awareness of, sensitivity to, and experience in working in multiple socio-economic settings and with multi-cultural staff and groups

Restless Development has been working on the Ishiwi project for the last two years, in partnership with BBC Media Action (the BBC‘s international development charity) in implementing the project.

Restless Development and BBC Media Action are calling for proposals from various research organizations/agencies to conduct an endline survey for their Ishiwi project to be conducted in June to July 2018. The purpose of the survey is to evaluate the outcomes/impact of the Governance programmes it is implementing. The programmes have been running for two and a half years, ending in August 2018.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track critical machine faults and take appropriate action as laid down in the procedures. Understanding various machine faults is critical to this function
  • Track speeding events and report to the appropriate Mine Captain/Supervisor
  • Track Pantograph faults and report to the High Voltage Section.
  • Track all faults reported in the Alert Response Database – event type, time, machine and personnel reported to
