CHAI has partnered with the Boston University School of Public Health and with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on the Alternative Models of ART Delivery: Optimizing Benefits (AMBIT), which is a 2.5-year, three-country evaluation of the coverage, uptake, outcomes, benefits, and Costs of differentiated service delivery models (DSD) for HIV treatment. In Malawi, Zambia, and South Africa, AMBIT will access and synthesize existing data at the patient, facility, partner, and national levels. It will also conduct some primary data collection studies to help fill in gaps in the existing knowledge base. The scope of work includes accessing, cleaning, and managing existing data sets; participating in stakeholder DSD meetings; leading local data collection efforts as needed; participating in analyses and co-authoring reports and manuscripts as appropriate; and representing the project to the Ministry of Health, implementing partners, funders, and other stakeholders.

CHAI requires a dynamic, results-oriented individual with strong analytical and project management experience and a strong record of leadership to take up the role of Associate for AMBIT and to act as project lead for AMBIT. S/he will work under the supervision of the Associate Director, HIV/AIDS, Cancer and Health Financing or their designate.

The position is for duration of 5 months through to 31 December 2019.

  • Coordinate local ethics and government approval processes and compliance with local requirements and regulations
  • Obtaining written government, partner, and/or site approval for access to individual data sets
  • Serve as the local external face of AMBIT by Communicating with local stakeholders as needed, including facilitating meetings between stakeholders and the overall study team
  • Participate in data collection and data team management including:
    • Developing data collection SOPs, recruiting data collection teams
    • Training data collection teams and ensuring that all staff have ethics training
    • Supervising data collection teams and quality assurance
  • Prepare final data sets for transfer to overall AMBIT data team
  • Participate in data analysis and report writing
  • Perform other study-related tasks as requested by the study PI and in agreement with AMBIT leadership
  • Perform other roles as assigned
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Research, Social Sciences or Health Related Field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a private or public sector enterprise, with increasing levels of responsibility and experience
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously whilst mentoring a team to perform consistently
  • Experience implementing research or evaluation projects under direction, in particular submitting applications for ethics and other approvals
  • Experience extracting data from electronic health data systems, in particular the national EMR
  • Expertise in data management, in particular SQL (essential) and Access
  • Expertise in data analysis and at least one data analysis package (SPSS, STATA, SAS or R)
  • Experience training and managing data collection teams
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-country team
