Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Duties, Experience, Academic Qualifications and Skills

a) Coordination and Knowledge Management:

  • Play a coordination role by supporting Lifeline/Childline Zambia in the development and implementation of
  • programmes in support of international and national commitments on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as outlined in the RTCZ/Lifeline/Childline MECH agreement;
  • Provision of technical advice to the Lifeline/Childline Zambia Chief Executive Officer as required, in the coordination of emerging technical and development assistance, ensuring emerging development support responds to women’s needs and national gender equality priorities;
  • Coordinate capacity building efforts on gender mainstreaming at all stages of the MECH implementation (annual work planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation) as well as other processes related to fulfilling the RTCZ/Lifeline/Childline MECH agreement.
  • With the support of the Gender Provincial Coordinators; build and promote internal capabilities and collaboration in mainstreaming gender within MECH;
  • Act as resource person in capacity building, knowledge sharing events and other relevant activities on gender equality and women’s empowerment in MECH;
  • Coordinate gender equality and women’s empowerment activities of MECH in close consultation with other MECH project staff.
  • Ensure knowledge sharing, documentation and dissemination of good practices on gender equality, women’s empowerment and rights within the MECH project;
  • Support in close consultation with the CEO, the communication of gender equality and women’s empowerment results to external audiences.

a) Strategic advice to the MECH project in promoting women’s rights and gender equality in the country:

  • Provide analysis and strategic advice to the MECH project on current gender issues and opportunities to support inclusive engagement of women in the development and humanitarian assistance provided by MECH including through preparation of regular analytical briefs;
  • Identify and advise on entry points for new initiatives for MECH to strengthen national and local capacities for gender equality and to support the advancement of women’s empowerment and gender equality in the country in close consultation with RTCZ;
  • Ensure MECH utilizes key accountability tools and processes to ensure that Lifeline/Childline Zambia tracks and is accountable for gender equality and women’s empowerment during the MECH project implementation

b) Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree in political science, economics, agricultural economics, development studies, public health, gender studies, public policy or other relevant social sciences.
  • Ten years of relevant experience in socio-economic analysis, policy analysis and support, and capacity development to integrate gender dimensions into policy and programme formulation and implementation, in the context of HIV and AIDS.

b) Technical/Functional Skills

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is essential.
  • Ability to analyse and integrating gender dimensions into policy and programme formulation, implementation and assessment, particularly in the areas of HIV and AIDS.
  • Analytical and professional experience related to policy support and gender policy analysis, including knowledge of policy-related capacity development approaches and policy support tools.
  • Ability to conduct journal-quality peer reviewed socio-economic research, analysing sex-disaggregated data and statistics, and applying findings to strengthen agricultural and rural development, food security  and nutrition, and poverty reduction policies and programmes.
  • Demonstrated Ability to mobilize resources.
  • Demonstrated success in managing PEPFAR-funded public health programs
