Job Description

To manage the relevant maintenance systems, generate routine and planned maintenance schedules, support the maintenance team in the execution of maintenance and facilitate problem solving so that line availability and efficiency is maximized, breakdowns are minimized and manufacturing costs are kept to a minimum. Position reports into Utilities Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Planning and Control

  • Set up Pre/Post meetings
  • Chair meetings, record issues and take minutes
  • Detail work content , safety first
  • Assign priorities
  • Assign resources , including contractors
  • Arrange logistic , tools, spares
  • Develop and distribute plan
  • Control resources during maintenance
  • Track and manage maintenance day progress according to maintenance plan doing walk about and over -inspections on maintenance days
  • Identify and update maintenance plan if required
  • Communicate progress against plan to line of authority
  • With the Team Leader – Utilities, assess and manage corrective work arising on maintenance days
  • Conduct PJO’s on schedule duration
  • Review the cleaning of machines equipment and area during and after maintenance
  • Participate on problem solving during the maintenance day
  • Review feedback on execution of ATM schedules
  • Manage start -up
  • Review returned task lists
  • Create follow on work
  • update task lists as required
  • Analyze Utility efficiencies
  • Record utility usages

2. Continuous Improvement

  • Equipment root cause actioned (5why)
  • Equipment root cause actioned (FFA)
  • Loop closure (5why)
  • Loop closure (FFA)
  • Maintenance documents updated
  • Follow on work prioritized
  • Review Minutes of SBT meeting run daily with agenda
  • Review Minutes of Technical meeting run daily with agenda
  • Conduct MDT Meeting according to Agenda & Action Plan
  • Plan and attend Pre/Post Maintenance Meeting
  • Ensure effective Technical Review Meeting with Breakdown reconciliation
  • Ensure effective Asset Care Practices in line with The Manufacturing Way and GEMS
  • Plan effective Weekly Maintenance Shut Down
  • Plan effective Annual Maintenance Shut Down
  • Ensure all PIMs and POMs are reviewed in applicable Meetings.
  • Conduct spot checks on Short Interval Controls (Compressors, chillers, boilers, CO2, generators, sugar plant, waste water treatment, water treatment) as part of Daily Walk About
  • Identify areas that require correction action
  • Analyze CMMS downtime data
  • Ensure all asset care work complies with Asset Care Standards

3. Implementing Engineering Change Management

  • Engineering Change initiated on CMMS
  • Engineering Change verified
  • Responsible person assigned for Engineering Change (inform others)
  • Detailed design authorized (inform others)
  • Change Implemented
  • Documentation updated
  • Change request closed

4. Maintenance Programme Development

  • Ensure effective safety awareness talks/incident recalls/Tool Box Talks
  • Provide PPE and ensure compliance (Budget Availability)
  • Ensure compliance to Permit to Work where required with Audit compliance
  • Report incidents Level  3 Leadership Incident investigations to be closed in 24 hours
  • Ensure identified safety hazards on line are managed to closure (including people behaviours)
  • Attend and report into SHE Meeting
  • Facilitate the teams risk management processes

5. Breakdown Management

  • Verify content correct
  • Recon to stoppage info
  • Follow on work agreed
  • CM tasks raised
  • Close breakdown order

6. Manage the Maintenance Spares

  • Investigate & plan for upcoming promotions/new products/trials
  • Train team members on new processes/procedures/technologies and ensure competence.
  • Identify Productivity opportunities (People, Cost, CAPIN)
  • Communicate benchmark shared learnings to team
  • Facilitate the development and use of machine problem solving systems
  • Ensure problem solving taking place and loop closure taking ( QFR/5why/FFA/End state analysis/ system analysis / stage

Skills, Experience & Education

  • Degree in Engineering: Mechanical or Instrumentation or Electrical/Electronics
  • Not less than 5 years Hands on experience in either Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation in a Manufacturing environment
  • 3 to 5 years engineering experience
  • Knowledge of Packaging plant will be an advantage
  • PC literate CMMS (Proficiency in Microsoft office applications)
