Position

We are looking for a positive, hard-working, meticulous repair assistant to assist in solar lantern and solar home system repairs.

The role includes diagnosing problems with solar lights, repair where possible and improving upon current repair procedures. The individual will also be responsible for some of the driving of the project vehicle to field sites, ensuring that the vehicle is well maintained and that proper records are kept. The repair assistant will need to keep detailed records of repairs and ensure that the repair workshop and all materials are organized, well-stocked and in good condition. The successful candidate will be creative, adaptive, and able to prioritise work, able to follow instructions and work independently.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Training in technical repair and electronics;
  • Experience working with renewable energy and PicoSolar is a benefit
  • Able to travel on field visits, when required;
  • Well organized and detail oriented;
  • Able to adapt to new surroundings with ease;
  • Able to work well under pressure and multitask;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Able to manage flow of information and communicate with a diverse array of people; ·         Effective time management and planning;
  • Computer literate and ability to work in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Passion and enthusiasm for SunnyMoney’s social goal and the work it does;
  • Valid Driver’s License held for over 2 years.
  • Able to speak Bemba and Nyanga is a benefit

Job Description Technical Skills

  • Support the SunnyMoney Zambia office in repair:
  • Obtain an in-depth understanding of the solar lights being sold by SunnyMoney and any new lights received;
  • Diagnose problems with non-working solar lights;
  • Repair non-working solar lights, where possible;
  • Develop and trial new forms of repair, where possible;
  • Identify additional repair knowledge that is required to improve upon the diagnosis and repair of lights;
  • Teach SunnyMoney staff and agents simple diagnosis and repair procedures.
  • Repair management and inventory
  • Document all diagnoses and repairs on an electronic spreadsheet;
  • Keep a regular inventory of lights and all components within the repair workshop, both electronically and in hard copy;
  • Identify repair component needs (solder, batteries, etc) before stock is finished and inform office manager of stock requirements;
  • Ensure that the repair area is tidy and that all items are in their proper place. Team support
  • Consider ways to improve how repairs are done across SunnyMoney Zambia’s operations;
  • Communicate your activities to office team members and share your learnings;
  • Learn how operations work and look for ways to improve operations and sales through diagnosis or repair;
  • Drive team members for key activities when needed and manage the vehicle schedule to provide optimum support to the team;
  • Provide support to others when required and ask for help when needed.

Admin

  • Ensure that you are on track with schedules and consistent with deadlines;
  • Ensure the vehicle is field ready before scheduled field visits;
  • Provide regular updates of work to supervisor. ·
  • Help with other office duties when required.

Working hours from 0800 – 1700 Monday through Friday, weekends as needed.
