Title: Project Assistant- Kafue Flats Restoration Partnership
Reporting line: The Project Assistant reports to the Community Relations Manager
The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is a Non-Governmental Organization that works worldwide to conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds, and flyways on which they depend. ICF works across Africa through the International Crane Foundation/Endangered Wildlife Trust (ICF/EWT) Partnership, with the goal of achieving the long-term conservation, restoration, and sustainable utilization of wildlife resources and natural environments in Africa, through close partnerships with local communities, governments, agencies, universities, local NGOs, private sector, and other stakeholders. ICF is registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee in Zambia. ICF/EWT has partnered with the Elephant Charge for the schools outreach programme.
Objective of the position: The main objective of the Project Assistant is to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of environmental education and awareness programs with the schools and communities of the Kafue Flats ecosystem. The role is to ensure a shared knowledge between partners, learners, and local communities.
ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the matrons/patrons for school conservation clubs regarding Schools environmental educational programme.
- Design and produce educational materials for Conservation Clubs as well as information, education, and communication materials for the office.
- Plan and organise school visits, interschools competitions, and conservation clubs’ field visit to Lochinvar and Blue Lagoon National Parks.
- Organize the commemoration of major global environmental days and ensure that these days are influential in community engagement.
- Ensure production of monthly ICF newsletter and dissemination to ICF partners.
- Assist in data collection and entry for the baseline survey in 7 chiefdoms
- Assist in community outreach activities including radio programs
- Assist with procurement, collection and organisation of administration documentation and other office and admin duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Degree or Diploma in a related field, and/or relevant, equivalent relevant experience of at least 2 years in a similar position.
- Strong technical skills and demonstrated experience and understanding of environmental educational programmes in schools and communities.
- Strong written communication skills, including writing routine correspondence and reports in a concise, logical, and effective manner.
- Effective verbal communication skills and ability to communicate in any of the languages used on the Kafue Flats is an added advantage.
- Ability to establish project plans and budgets, regularly monitor and track progress on work projects
- Flexibility to work beyond normal working hours to accomplish regular and ad hoc job responsibilities which includes extensive travel and camping within and outside the Kafue Flats
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat and any design software.
