Job Purpose
The Legal & Compliance Assistant will perform contract management in the form of a preliminary high-level review of contracts; noting areas of concern for discussion with the Legal and Real Estates Coordinator. Providing relevant legal documentation during any participation in Tender Processes as shall be requested from time to time; Assisting with the follow-ups on Credit Committee files handed over to the Legal Dept.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Assisting with the implementation of the Group Compliance Programme
  • Provide desktop background search on companies
  • Provide guidance to external parties and employees as regards the process of Due Diligence and review the duly completed Due Diligence Forms prior to submitting them to the General Secretary.
  • Draft legal compliance presentations for the training of senior staff.
  • Review/Draft legal documents and letters
  • Regularly reviewing compliance with the law, of all properties, ensuring that Rates and Ground Rentals are paid promptly as each year.
  • Periodic review of the Company’s compliance with all relevant statutory requirements and approvals associated with the oil marketing industry (ERB, ZEMA, Local councils, PACRA)
  • Ensure that the Government Gazette subscription is renewed annually.
  • Any other duties shall be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB)
  • At least 1 – 2 years experience in handling legal and compliance-related duties.
  • Must have just finalised and passed studies at ZIALE
  • Must have valid membership of the Law Association of Zambia.
  • Ability to handle, and must have relevant experience in, Commercial law related matters.
  • Must exhibit integrity in all aspects of duties
  • Must abide by strict confidentiality and non-disclosure requirements
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards at all times
  • Must possess a valid drivers’ licence
  • Computer Literate
