JOB PURPOSE
Designing and installing well-functioning computer networks, connections, and cabling. Performing troubleshooting of system failures and identifying bottlenecks to ensure the long-term efficiency of a network. Testing and configuring software and maintaining and repairing hardware and peripheral devices.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Designing and installing well-functioning computer networks, connections, and cabling.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
- Design, implement, and support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote access VPNs conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking
industry. - Update new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Support and maintain computer systems and peripherals by installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware.
- Monitor network performance, optimize server capacity, and secure networks and data.
- Repair network errors and perform network upgrades.
- Evaluate network performance and find ways of improvement.
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent physical condition and flexibility to work long shifts and overnight.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two (2) years of proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Expert knowledge of core routing and switching design principles, best practices, and related technologies.
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting.
- Extensive application support with network monitoring and analysis software.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with credit or better in Maths and English.
- Diploma in Computer Science from a recognized institution.
- Network or Hardware certification will be an added advantage.
