Purpose of the role:

To ensure that occupational safety, environmental and health standards are adhered to on  HCMZ branches, and to carry out day to day inspections of the facility, and assisting in implementing safe practices and operations.

Reports to: Safety Coordinator/Site Manager

Branch: Hitachi Kansanshi Mine Site

Duration: 6 Months

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Safety Officer will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Ensure that Risk assessment are being conducted for jobs
  • Ensure that tool box talks are being conducted in various sections
  • Ensure that inspections are carried out and follow ups being done and Ensure that remedial actions and recommendations are implemented to address non-conformance quickly and effectively.
  • Ensure that company safety and environmental policies adhered to.
  • Ensure that all accidents no matter how small are investigated.
  • Ensure a data base for all incidents is kept.
  • Investigating safety related complaints.
  • Ensure that an updated data base and other requirement is kept
  • Investigating safety related complaints
  • Ensure that all new employees and contractors are inducted and records retained
  • Ensure Safe operating procedures are being followed
  • Ensure that periodic Audits and inspections are conducted
  • Legal and other requirements – Ensure that Identified safety related acts, regulations, by-laws, licenses and other legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to Hitachi are being adhered to.
  • Ensure that safe working behavior is practiced by all employees
  • Keep all Safety boards updated
  • Ensure that toolbox talk and conducted in various department and register kept for the same
  • Ensure you have knowledge on the basic rigging.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Minimum of an Advanced Certificate in a Safety related field. Diploma or Degree will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum experience of 3 years in Mining/Factory/Industrial environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Member of the relevant professional body.
