The Zambia Institute For Policy Analysis And Research (ZIPAR) is the leading Think Tank in Zambia, with a distinctly international character. The Think Tank provides an environment for creative thinking and conducting policy analysis and research, promotes dialogue and advocacy and delivers capacity building and training. Overtime, the Institute has grown to become a critical reference in the social and economic policy discourse in Zambia. To support the Executive Director to effectively engage with stakeholders and promote evidence-based policies, ZIPAR seeks an experienced Knowledge Manager.

Job Purpose

The Knowledge Manager conceptualizes, plans and manages the organization’s internal and external knowledge management and communications. He/she works closely with Research Fellows as knowledge management and communications advisor on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and drive strategy and message development for high profile research projects including Flagship Annual Analysis of the National Budget;
  • Work with Research Fellows to devise communications plans for research projects;
  • Conduct audience research and develop a deep understanding;
  • Conceptualize, plan and implement policy engagement meetings with policy makers;
  • Track and measure the level of engagement with policy makers over time and conceptualize new innovative tools and communication channels;
  • Manage the development of all print materials including, but not limited to ZIPAR Quarterly newsletters, reports, policy briefs, brochures and flyers;
  • Build on existing and develop new relationships with Media News Editors, key decision makers, policy influencers and other key stakeholders;
  • Manage press queries, drafting press releases, editing and drafting articles and blogs;
  • Identify communications opportunities and threats and advise researchers;
  • Develop and write scripts for radio and TV programmes;
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance; ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly;
  • Coordinate and organize annual economic conferences that engage a large network of development researchers and policy makers; and
  • Support Management in effective internal communications.

Required Attributes and Competences

  • Proven ability to work with web-based and social media platforms;
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), in English;
  • Ability to develop, write, and edit technical content for both print publications and the web;
  • Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines;
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with program team members, donors, and other cooperating agencies; and
  • Big picture thinker with strong team-building and organizational skills preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Economics, Mass Communication or Business Administration;
  • Master’s Degree in either Economics, Mass Communication or Business Administration is an added advantage; and
  • Five years experience in a similar position.
