Environment, Health and Safety (HSE) Manager IHS Towers

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Technical the job holder will have wide knowledge and understanding of health, safety and environment (HSE) practices as they relate to the telecommunication industry. They will be professionals preferably with managerial skills to drive the implementation of HSE policies and procedures so that IHS is complaint with HSE regulations and requirements. They will also ensure prevention of accidents in IHS workplaces especially in tower sites to ensure the health and safety of employees, the general public and property, as well as the environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policy is well transmitted and understood within IHS Zambia
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Inspect equipment, machinery and tower site infrastructure to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to HSE issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report to IHS local and group management on HSE statistics, awareness and issues
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace or sites according to legal guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Monitor the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards to ensure workplaces and the environment are safe for employees
  • Perform periodic HSE audits to evaluate gaps between established HSE standards and the actual prevailing status and take appropriate actions to close them
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention

Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge

  • HSE understanding, knowledge about safety and environmental standards

Educational Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental or occupational health and safety, or in a related field from a recognized institution
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills
  • Should be OSHA and NEBOSH certified.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
  • Minimum five (5) years of cognate experience in a telecommunication industry
  • Member relevant professional body
