Assistant Accountant x2 National Legal Aid Clinic for Women

The National Legal Aid Clinic for Women (NLACW) was established in 1990 by the Women’s Rights Committee (WRC) of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) to provide affordable legal aid to women and children from marginalized social sectors. The overall objective of the NLACW is to empower women and children to know and realise their human rights through legal representation, human rights education and advocacy for policy and law reform as a distinct but integral part of the women’s movement.

NLACW is implementing a Strategic Plan for the period 2019-2023 with core- support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The strategic objectives include Legal Representation, Legal and Human Rights Education and Advocacy for policy and law reform to address gender inequalities and ensure that the rights of women and children are safeguarded.

 

 

NLACW now invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the following positions.

ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT (2)

Reporting to the Programme Accountant

Location: Lusaka

JOB FUNCTION

  • Assist the Programme Accountant in processing and recording daily transactions relating to payables and receivables
  • Assist the Programme Accountant in the preparation of reconciliations such as bank, fuel and Clients Accounts
  • Process and capture payments including statutory payments in a computerized accounting environment
  • Perform reconciliations of payables and receivables
  • Check the GL allocations to ensure that the split per payment requisition is correct.
  • Assist checking compliance of payment requisitions against contracts
  • Capture debit and/ or credit card payments & petty cash in a computerized accounting environment
  • Assist the Programme Accountant with annual audit preparation Participate in addressing internal and external audit queries
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register-FAR and preparing journals as required
  • Assist the Programme Accountant in extracting reconciled computer based monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual reports for management, Board and donor reports
  • Perform any other relevant duties that may be assigned by superiors

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) O’ Levels (credit or better)
  • Partly qualified CA Zambia/ACCA/CIMA
  • Degree in Accountancy or equivalent
  • Computer skills, experience in working with Accounting software specifically Sage Evolution with Voucher Management & Fixed Assets Modules
  • ZICA Membership a must
  • 4 years hands on experience in the field of Accounting and Finance, multi donor funded Projects is a distinct advantage
