Background
People’s Process on Housing and Poverty in Zambia (PPHPZ) is a local NGO with 17 years of experience working with partner organizations, grassroots led movements and Informal Settlement Networks (ISNs) in rural and urban poor communities in all the ten provinces of Zambia. PPHPZ supports federated networks of the rural and urban poor to address governance issues at local and national level so as to address inequitable access to land, housing, infrastructure, water and sanitation for the majority poor in the country. Our work seeks to capacitate the marginalized rural and urban slum dwellers to work together in networks/movements to ensure that the poor are able to hold to account their civic leaders both at local and national level.
For this role, the communication’s specialist will be responsible for implementing communication strategies that will help the organization meet its goals. The communications officer must be able to work with vulnerable communities as well as help improve the organization’s brand awareness.
Job Responsibilities
Planning and implementing effective communications strategies
Managing Social Media Accounts for the organizations
Identifying Target Audiences and engaging with them
Optimizing website content as well as advertising and marketing campaigns
Writing, reading and proof reading content including material for a website, press releases, marketing material and other types of content that takes the message to the public.
Create and produce internal and external online Newsletters for the organization
Work closely with programs teams on the design and distribution of campaign materials for maximum impact
Be available for field site visits to collect case studies and undertake photography commissions
Support in managing media visits and internal staff requests
Job Qualifications and Experience
Degree in relevant field such as mass/media communication/international relations/journalism, social sciences or any relevant studies
A minimum of 3 years work experience in a similar role or in media and communication position
Proven experience of developing and managing the production of communications materials for INGOs or other similar organisations
Evidence of excellent English verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’. Ability to strategically target a wide range of audiences is essential
Proven ability to work with communities and partners to gather case studies, testimonies and information on programs and activities.
Understanding how to manage strategic media engagement in a politically-sensitive environment.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Excellent analytical skills, time management, ability to work under pressure
