Executive Director Competition and Consumer Protection Commission

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (“the Commission”) is a Statutory Body under Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry, with a total establishment of one hundred employees. The Commission was established under the Competition and Consumer Protection Act No 24 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia.

The objectives of the Commission are to safeguard and promote competition and to protect consumers against unfair trade practices.

The Commission invites suitably qualified and highly motivated candidates to apply for the following post:

 

 

JOB TITLE: Executive Director

REPORTS TO: Board of Commissioners

GRADE: CCPC/A

JOB PURPOSE: To provide strategic leadership to achieve the goals and objectives of the Commission.

LOCATION: Lusaka

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Management:

Developing high quality Commission strategies and plans and ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term goals and objectives.

Mergers & Monopolies:

Oversees the investigation of mergers, acquisitions and operations of monopolies in order to promote competitive markets.

Consumer Protection:

Oversees the investigation of trade practices to promote consumer welfare.

Restrictive Business Practices:

Oversees the investigation of restrictive business practices in order to prevent anti-competitive behaviour in the Zambian market.

Legal Services:

Oversees the provision of legal services in order to facilitate the enforcement of competition and consumer protection law.

Information, Education and Communication (IEC): Oversees the development and implementation of IEC programmes in order to raise awareness on competition and consumer protection matters.

People Management

i. Performance management: oversees timely development of work plans and operationalisation of the performance system in order to monitor, evaluate and enhance performance.

ii. Resource Utilization: oversees the utilization of human, financial and material resources in the Commission in order to ensure effective and efficient operations.

iii. Establishing working culture: develop a Commission’s culture that adheres to the Commission’s Vision, Mission and Values.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE

  • Full Grade Twelve Certificate
  • 15 years’ experience at senior management level
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business related field or its equivalent
  • Experience in Competition and/or Consumer protection law will be an added advantage
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree an added advantage
