Agriculture Field Officer x4 Biocarbon Partners

BCP is a leading African REDD+ Developer and conservation organization which seeks to sustainably finance wildlife and habitat conservation through the forest carbon markets. BCP’s mission is “making conservation of wildlife habitat              valuable to people”. We work with Community and Government partners to help improve the conservation management of over 1 million hectares of globally significant wildlife habitats in Zambia, benefiting over 225,000 people.

BCP is seeking to recruit dynamic individuals as Agriculture Field Officers x 4 to be based in Livingstone x1, Kaoma x1, Lufwanyama x1 & Kasempa x1. This role is responsible for increasing food production and nutrition security in the Kafue-Zambezi Community Forest Project partner Chiefdoms.  This role needs to contribute to getting KZ Project to be ready for Verification by 2026.  The role is responsible for improving incomes of household around KZ Project Areas in Livingstone, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama and Kasempa sectors by sustainably growing enough crops for subsistence and excess surplus sales. The Agriculture Field Officers have a key role in engagement by communicating to communities that these livelihood investments are a result of protecting the community forests through REDD+ Project.  The link between BCP’s Agricultural program and REDD+ has to be 100% clear to the beneficiaries.  The role reports to The Senior Agriculture Officer.

STUFF WE’LL TRUST YOU WITH.

  • Partnerships with GRZ, NGOs, and other partners to scale up Climate Smart land preparation, planting, irrigation and harvesting within Livingstone, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama and Kasempa sectors.
  • Technical support to partners and communities to maximize yields and household security among communities living adjacent to the Community Forests.
  • Improvements in food and nutrition security and household incomes for 2275 households in each of the sectors.
  • Catalyzing Livingstone, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama and Kasempa sector farmers’ sales and marketing of surplus crops.
  • To Up scale the promotion and adoption of Climate Smart Agriculture practices aimed at reducing agriculture land expansion while increasing crop yields.
  • Introduce diversification of drought and flood resistant crops (e.g. Millet, Sorghum and Cassava).
  • Plan and direct development and production of hybrid plant varieties with high yield or disease and insect resistant characteristics that are area specific and do well in Livingstone, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama and Kasempa sectors.
  • To effectively communicate internally & externally following the BOB ‘breakthroughs & blockages’ principle.
  • Actively contributing to communications efforts i.e. slack, blogs, images and facebook updates.

ALLIANCE BUILDERS WANTED.

  • Qualifications in a related field such a Certificate or Diploma from any agricultural college.

Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience required in an agricultural sector.
  • Computer skills and full command of Microsoft applications required.
  • Demonstrates integrity, fairness, and cultural sensitivity, and adaptability.
  • Strong commitment to achieving goals laid out by the company.
  • Establish strong leadership skills in the form of resourcefulness, initiative, and maturity of judgment.
  • Ability to establish effective working relations in a multicultural team environment.
  • Candidate must be innovative and develop techniques for conservation farming.
  • Ability to work and cope in a stressful environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate a team to achieve a common goal.
