Deputy Editor Nkwazi Magazine

Nkwazi Magazine is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Deputy Editor to join our team. As the Deputy Editor, you will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to manage the day-to-day operations of our publication.

Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement editorial strategies to ensure that the magazine’s content meets the needs and interests of its target audience, both in print and online segments.

2. Work with the editor-in-chief to set editorial priorities and themes for each issue of the magazine, as well as for the online version of the publication.

3. Assign articles and stories to writers, and work with them to develop their ideas and ensure that their work meets the publication’s standards for quality and style, both for the print and online versions.

4. Edit and proofread articles and other content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with the publication’s style guidelines for both print and online versions.

5. Collaborate with the design team to ensure that the magazine’s visual content is engaging and consistent with the publication’s editorial vision for both print and online versions.

6. Write articles and other content as needed, both for the print and online versions of the publication.

7. Manage the magazine’s production schedule and ensure that deadlines are met for both prints.

8. Collaborate with the art director and design team to ensure that the magazine’s visual content is engaging and consistent with the publication’s editorial vision.

9. Manage the online version of the magazine, including overseeing the publication of online-only stories, managing the website’s content, and monitoring website analytics to track the performance of the online content.

10. Develop and maintain relationships with industry experts, writers, and other contributors for both print and online versions of the publication.

11. Monitor reader feedback and analytics to track the performance of the magazine’s content and make data-driven decisions about future content strategies.

12. Manage the publication’s social media presence, including developing and implementing strategies for social media content development, monitoring social media metrics, and working with the social media team to ensure that social media content aligns with the publication’s editorial standards and values.

13. Develop and maintain relationships with industry experts, writers, and other contributors in Zambia and the region.

14. Keep up-to-date with industry trends and developments to ensure that the magazine remains relevant and engaging to its audience, both in print, online, and on social media.

15. Represent the magazine in public spaces, including attending industry events and conferences, speaking with members of the media, and serving as a spokesperson for the publication when necessary.

16. Set up meetings and meet with key figures and industry leaders to discuss potential partnerships and collaborations, as well as to gather insights and perspectives on trends and developments within the industry.

17. Aid in Generating revenue through sales assistance by engaging industry leaders and working with the sales team to come up with ideas for sponsored content and special advertising sections and supplement magazines that are both engaging to readers and profitable for the publication.

18. Collaborate with various stakeholders for shared marketing campaigns, working with their marketing teams to develop joint marketing initiatives that promote the magazine and its content, as well as the partner company’s products or services.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

2. At least 5 years of experience in journalism or a related field, with a proven track record of writing and editing high-quality content.

3. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to write and edit quickly and accurately.

4. Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with writers and other team members.

6. Knowledge of industry trends and best practices, with a passion for staying up-to-date with new technologies and platforms.

7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

8. Experience with social media management, including developing and executing social media strategies, creating content for social media channels, and monitoring and responding to comments and messages.
