Overview

One of our international clients in the Manufacturing / Mining Sector is looking for a Local Procurement Officer that will be responsible for overseeing day to day local purchasing activities and ensure that purchased goods and services are both cost-efficient and of high quality. The Local Procurement Officer’s responsibilities include coordinating the purchase process, maintaining positive supplier relations, evaluating supply options, and maintaining accurate records and sufficient inventory levels.

To be successful, the Local Procurement Officer should have an analytical mind and keep up with product and service trends. Ultimately, the Local Procurement Officer should be able to negotiate well and ensure that all purchases comply with company policy and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinating the procurement process of local goods from sourcing to delivery, ensuring that goods and services are purchased at the most competitive prices and delivered on time.
  • Following and enforcing the company’s procurement policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Maintaining and updating supplier information database, such as suppliers’ compliance documentation, qualifications, delivery times, product ranges, etc.
  • Solicit quotations and proposals from suppliers and negotiate pricing and terms. Recommending products and services to be purchased
  • Maintaining good supplier relations to ensure that the company receives the best possible pricing, quality, and service
  • Ensure that purchasing contracts and terms are in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Managing inventories and maintaining accurate purchase and pricing records.
  • Researching and evaluating prospective suppliers. Preparing plans for the purchase of goods and services (e.g., PPE).
  • Provide advice and support to internal stakeholders on procurement processes and best practices.
  • Review suppliers periodically to ensure continued compliance to regulations, safety, and quality standards. Engaging stakeholders on remedial actions where necessary

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a similar field
  • 3 years of experience as a procurement officer or in a similar position.
  • Membership in a recognized procurement professional body (CIPS).
  • Knowledge of procurement principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing ERP software.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking skills.
