Grants and Fundraising Officer Conservation Lower Zambezi

Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) is a non-profit organisation committed to the protection of wildlife and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Lower Zambezi in Zambia. Established in 1994, CLZ is centred around three main pillars of support: Wildlife Protection, Environmental Education, and Community Empowerment—actively working towards a vision of a valued, protected and thriving Lower Zambezi landscape. The organisation works in collaboration with Zambia’s local wildlife authority, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), to ensure the sustainability of wildlife in the Lower Zambezi Valley and their ecosystems.

Grants and Fundraising Officer
CLZ is looking to recruit a full time Grants and Fundraising Officer who will be responsible for our existing funding base and expanding our network further into potential new areas of support. The Officer will also be responsible for all of CLZ’s online presence and social media platforms.

Location: CLZ Base Camp, Lower Zambezi, Zambia

The role will include but not be limited to the following tasks:
Pro-actively seek grant opportunities”

  • Pro-actively seek potential international and national grant opportunities and present potential applications to the Grants Manager and CEO for consideration.
  • Prepare grant applications to final draft stage for submission to the Grants Manager.
  • Prepare narrative donor reports for submission to the Grants Manager.
  • Manage relationships with current and future international and national donors.
  • Communicate developments and share news related to projects with the relevant donors.
  • Assist with capacity building and training management colleagues in grant writing skills, social media, and donor relations.

Fundraising and communications:

  • Organise and co-ordinate annual fundraisers and other major events.
  • Manage and develop all existing CLZ social media platforms and online presence.
  • Develop marketing materials for use in promotion of projects, events and activities.
  • Liaise with photographers, film crew and media personnel on content for CLZ.
  • Manage and coordinate interactions with local and international media.

Candidate Profile
Required skills for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Conservation, Social Sciences or other relevant field
  • Three years’ experience in fundraising (including proposal writing and financial grant management)
  • Experience working with government agencies, communities and community-based organisations, partner NGOs and for-profit entities
  • Proven fundraising record, with experience nurturing and managing donor relations
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills, with ability to work to multiple deadlines
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Strong written communication skills, including impact report and grant proposal writing
  • Experience with monitoring, evaluation & learning frameworks and ideally compliance requirements for various donors
  • Strong management and organisational skills
  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to live in a remote camp environment

Desired skills for this position:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Education, Conservation, Social Science or a related field
  • Five years’ experience in fundraising (including proposal writing and financial grant management) having worked with institutional funders such as the European Union, US and UK Governments – ideally within the Conservation, Social Development or Sustainable Land Use Management sectors in Africa
  • Project management skills with proven experience in project design, development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Financial management and reporting skills, including budgeting and forecasting
  • Good with people, a capacity builder and sensitive to operating in multi-cultural environments Ability to work under pressure and independently
  • Strong verbal communication and networking skills
  • Experience in social media, marketing, engaging audiences, and growing awareness on various platforms
  • Information technology skills and expertise
  • Photography and videography experience
  • WordPress
