Project Coordinator – Environmental Management ActionAid Zambia

ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is part of the ActionAid Global (AAG) Federation; sharing common values and aims to drive social change towards a just, equitable and sustainable world. AAZ works with marginalized and excluded women and young people, their organizations, and movements to address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality and poverty.
ActionAid Zambia has a vacancy for an experienced and suitably qualified Zambian to fill the position of Project Coordinator – Environmental Management under the Transformative Impact Fund (TIF) Project.

LOCATION: SESHEKE

CONTRACT DURATION: THREE (3) YEARS

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AREAS: NALOLO AND SESHEKE

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The holder of the position shall be responsible for overall coordination, implementation, and management of the Transformative Impact Fund (TIF) project. Notably, the job holder will focus on the following:

  • Support local communities in Nalolo and Sesheke to gain improved food security and livelihoods,
  • Promote strategic alignment of the TIF project deliverables to Zambia’s key national documents and policies, including the 8th National Development Plans on environmental sustainability.
  • Support women-led and youth-led Agro-ecological alternatives to transform agricultural systems to boost food sovereignty and promote rights of vulnerable communities. The holder of the position is expected to ensure programme efficiency and effectiveness through participation in decision making, advising on programme and projects implementation and policy issues, communication, and implementation of agreed decisions.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Promoting and strengthen resilient livelihoods through provision of alternatives such as scaling up Agro-ecological practices in the target communities of Sesheke and Nalolo.
  • Build capacities of project beneficiariesin project implementation areas in environmental rights, advocacy, campaigning and lobbying and advocacy.
  • Work with state and non-state actors to strengthen coordination of environmental management programmes at provincial and district levels.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, learning of strategies, interventions and lessons learnt in programming around environmental management.
  • Promote efforts aimed at localizing the ActionAid International (AAI) Global Climate Justice Campaign in project implementation areas.
  • Build the capacity of project beneficiaries in project implementation areas in designing social audits and undertaking social audit for evidenced based advocacy and enhanced engagement.
  • Collecting and assessing relevant information concerning strategies implemented by, CBOs, youth, and women groups, for addressing environmental degradation and promoting environmental protection.
  • Lead AAZ policy advocacy at provincial and district levels on environmental management and climate justice
  • Lead in the development of the project workplans and reports and ensure adherence project guidelines.
  • Working with the project financial officer, ensure strengthened project financial management
  • Support ActionAid Zambia fundraising efforts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, Disaster management,
    development, or other related fields from a recognized University
  • At least one (3) years’ experience in gender programming, governance, democracy, or human rights programmes
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Environmental Management and Governance issues in Zambia
  • Demonstrable experience in research and working within influential coalitions and networks.
  • Ability to identify organizations and facilitate development of partnerships at operational level and use the partnership for scaling up interventions through collaborative alliances.
  • Demonstrate experience in advocacy and campaigning, research, and policy analysis.
  • A self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision as well as being a team player.
  • Excellent communication skills with good command of English as an official language and local languages in the project areas.
  • Strong writing skills for project reports and project documents.
  • Experience of similar previous work in Western province, understanding of the culture in Western province, and able to speak and understand major local languages being spoken in Western province will be added advantage.
