Community Mobilizer Zambart

Zambart is an independent Zambian research organization with a longstanding research partnership between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the University of Zambia which began in 1988, and it has become one of Zambia’s leading research groups specialising in Tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

We facilitate quality interdisciplinary health research on issues of public health importance in Zambia. Over the years, Zambart has expanded its scope to include both qualitative and quantitative studies around TB and HIV as well as other infections and public health issues such as poverty, mental health and more. Results from numerous studies have contributed to policy and practice at both national and global levels.

Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication research compliance and counselling.

Study Summary:

Zambart is currently recruiting staff for a new study entitled: “Global Burden Estimation of Human Papillomavirus (GLOBE-HPV). This study aims to estimate the prevalence of HPV 16 and/or 18 infection among a representative sample of girls and women. In addition, the study aims to estimate the incidence of HPV infection in selected populations over 2 years.

To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for full time candidates to fill the following positions:

Community Mobilizer (01) 24 Months Contract

The Community Mobilizer is an individual who is familiar with the implementation site and as extensive experience in community mobilization and engagement. The Community Mobilizer will be appointed to ensure that the community is ready and receptive to the implementation and to help the implementation team to understand that zone boundaries. There will be one community mobilizer per community. The Community Mobilizer will report to the Site Supervisor/ Study Nurse.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assess training community advisory boards’ members (CABs) and assist conduct the required training.
  • Practically support the CABs to ensure that structures for community engagement are operational at community level.
  • Organise community sensitisation activities targeting girls and women.
  • Ensure study programs are being carried out in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting training and community stakeholder meetings.
  • Work in liaison with the other study staff, CABs and other key stakeholders in planning and conducting community sensitisation activities.
  • Sensitize the community to generate demand for the study enrolling.
  • Update community stakeholder list.
  • Conduct meetings with community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate community leaders and other key stakeholders to mobilize community members to participate in the study.
  • Ensure timely submission of work plans and activity reports.
  • Assist sites to document study community engagement lessons learnt.
  • Document relevant stories/incidents related to the study.
  • Ensure documentation of all study related activities in soft and hard copies.
  • Maintain documentation files of the activities.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Identify CAB members to attend Zambart organised meetings and other conferences as appropriate.
  • Perform any other activities and functions as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a grade twelve (12) and at least 21 years and above
  • Vast experience in community engagement
  • Vast experience in community mobilization and stakeholders engagement
  • Good social communication skills.
  • Must be a psycho-social /HIV testing counsellor
  • Knowledge of HIV and HPV research.
  • Computer literacy
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar position.
  • Fluency in English, Nyanja and Bemba spoken in target community.
  • Must be willing to work long hours or as duty demand.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Resident in the catchment area.
