Temporary Safety Officer Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia

Purpose of the role:

To ensure that occupational safety, health, and environmental standards are adhered to, and to carry out day to day inspections of the facility and assisting in implementing safe practices and operations.

Reports to: Assistant Manager SHE & Security

Branch: Lusaka

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Temporal Safety Officer will be required to perform the following tasks:

1. Risk Assessment

  • Ensure that Risk assessments are being conducted.
  • Ensuring JSA and take 5 are conducted for jobs.
  • Assist in conducting Toolbox talks in various sections.

2. Inspections

Carry out daily safety inspections and follow ups in the workshop

  • Work areas Inspected (routine and planned).
  • Ensure that company safety and environmental policies adhered to.
  • New employees trained and inducted, and safety training done involving operations.
  • Attend to safety issues from Safety representatives.

3. Investigations

  • Investigating safety related complaints.
  • Investigate Incidents/accidents.
  • Ensure that remedial actions and recommendations are implemented to address non-conformance quickly and effectively.

4. Inductions and Trainings

  • Conduct training and inductions for new and Contractors
  • Ensure that all new employees and contractors are inducted, and records retained.

5. Audits

Assist in Safety audits

  • Ensuring that Safe operating procedures are being followed.
  • Assist in conducting Safety audits.
  • Ensure that all Non-conformances are closed quickly and effectively.

6. Ensure legal and other requirements

  • Ensure that Identified safety related acts, regulations, by-laws, licenses, and other legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to Hitachi are being adhered to.

7. Ensure safe working behavior is practiced by all employees

  • Assist the supervisor in conducting PTO’s (Plan Task observation)
  • Assist with the PSI (Pre-start inspections) meeting to ensure that a culture of work execution is being performed.
  • Keep Safety boards updated.
  • Ensure that toolbox talk and conducted in various department and register kept for the same.

8. Safety Assurance

  • Ensure that Safety activities on site / branch are done.
  • JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) for all tasks done.

9. Customer Relations

  • Customer satisfied.
  • Queries addressed effectively and on time.

10. Documentation

  • Ensure that Safety related communication is communicated regularly and filed accordingly.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Minimum of a Diploma in a Safety related field
  • Minimum experience of 3 years in Mining/Factory/Industrial environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a current ZOHSA membership license.
  • Member of the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety association is a must.
