Prime Impala Resources seeks a Deputy Chief of Party-Technical (DCOP-Tech) for the anticipated USAID Zambia Agriculture Diversification Support Activity (ZADS) opportunity. This activity aims to contribute to transforming Zambia’s agricultural sector into an efficient, equitable, and sustainable producer of high quality and nutritious food for consumption, sale, and trade. This transition will foster growth in Zambia’s agricultural sector and enhance resilience to climate shocks while improving the market competitiveness of the targeted agricultural commodities and increasing the consumption of nutritious foods at the household level.
The three outcomes of the activity are:
Outcome 1: Increase agricultural yields and diversified food production among small agribusinesses;
Outcome 2: Enhance market systems through robust private sector engagement and strengthened value chains of selected agricultural commodities from producers; and
Outcome 3: Enhance dietary diversity and improve food security.
The DCOP-Tech will provide leadership to implement the three ZADS Outcomes and be accountable for their integrated implementation. They will directly manage the three Outcome Leads, collaborate with the DCOP-Operations to ensure smooth implementation, and report to the Chief of Party.
Their key responsibilities include:
- Provide overall program, managerial, and technical support to the COP, overseeing technical staff;
- Coordinate the technical team and subcontracts to fully and accurately implement activities to achieve program results and objectives while complying with USAID rules and regulations;
- Ensure that all assistance provided is technically sound and appropriate to meet activity objectives;
- Build partnerships with key stakeholders, including local implementing partners, government officials, and USAID;
- Oversee annual work planning, performance management, and strategic communications;
- Ensure successful collaboration between project technical staff to design strategy and achieve activity-wide goals and objectives
- Ensure lessons learned from project implementation are shared across components and are included in quarterly reports, annual reports, and the annual work plan;
- Review and edit reports and deliverables prepared by Outcome Leads;
- Manage technical oversight of program partners in their technical activities; and
- Perform other duties as required to ensure successful project implementation.
The DCOP-Technical minimum required qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in agriculture, agriculture economics, business management, or other relevant field;
- Eight years progressively responsible experience working on agricultural development, preferably in Zambia or a similar environment;
- Five years proven successful experience managing direct technical assistance and training for farmers, farmer institutions, and farming communities;
- Demonstrated knowledge of systems approaches to development, particularly in agriculture and nutrition;
- Superb interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively with different stakeholders and on teams;
- Knowledge and experience of nutrition and nutrition programming desirable; and
- Fluent English required, and fluency in Bemba and/or Nyanja desirable.
