Sectional Surveyor Lubambe Copper Mine Limited

Lubambe Copper Mine Limited (LCML) owns and operates the Lubambe underground Copper Mine located in Chililabombwe District of the Copperbelt Province in Zambia. The Mine, which commenced operations in 2012 is situated approximately 468 kilometres North of the Capital City of Lusaka, 152 Kilometres from Ndola and approximately 40 Kilometres from Chingola.

Lubambe Copper Mine sits on an area of approximately 58.1 square kilometres and comprises an existing underground mine, characterised by two distinct limbs (the East and South Limbs) and a processing Plant with a capacity to process up to 2.4 million tonnes per annum.

LCML seeks to employ an experienced and qualified individual in the following position:

SECTIONAL SURVEYOR (X1)

This position reports to the Lead Surveyor.

Core Purpose of the Position:

To provide accurate and timely spatial data through surveying services that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective mine development and production activities. This role will ensure the correct execution of mine plans, track excavation progress, maintain control networks, and deliver precise survey information to stakeholders, including mine planning, geology, and geotechnical departments. This role also upholds regulatory compliance and safety standards in all survey operations, both underground and on surface.

Key Performance Areas/Indicators (KPA/Is):

  • Review and maintain safe operating procedures and survey work instructions in compliance with site safety standards.
  • Execute weekly and monthly mine survey tasks in support of mining construction, long-hole drilling, blasting, and tramming operations.
  • Conduct accurate hole surveys to support long-hole drilling activities.
  • Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical control networks for proper design implementation and continuous updating of the peg database in Deswik and Amine Softwares.
  • Perform end profiling and face marking to support development drilling and blasting.
  • Stake out and record borehole positions and conduct pickup surveys post-blasting.
  • Carry out cavity monitoring surveys (CMS) to capture void data in underground excavations.
  • Update and maintain accurate wireframes for use by Mine Planning, Geology, and Geotechnical Engineering teams.
  • Ensure all surveyed data is correctly plotted and reflected on official mine plans.
  • Conduct surface volume quantification for stockpiles, waste dumps, and other earthworks.
  • Operate drones for surface and underground surveys, including data capture and processing.
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate with credits or better in Mathematics, Science, and English.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s Degree in Geodetic, Geomatics, Land, or Surveying from a recognised institution.
  • Registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and the Engineering Registration Board (ERB).
  • Valid Class ‘C’ Driver’s Licence.
  • Valid Drone Pilot license (Multi-rotor or Fixed Wing).
  • Basic First Aid and Health & Safety training.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mine surveying, including at least 2–3 years in a similar role within a busy underground or open-pit mining environment.
  • Proficiency in mining software such as Surpac, Deswik, Datamine, Amine, and related CAD systems, Pix4D, GIS,
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of mining legislation and safety regulations
  • Physically fit and able to pass pre-employment medical examinations.
