Reporting to: Gender Provincial Coordinator

Duties, Experience, Academic Qualifications and Skills

The Program Officer IPV has the role of supporting Lifeline/Childline Zambia Programs to implement gender mainstreaming in MECH work. The position is also linked to the promotion of gender equity within the different programs and units, i.e., the promotion of gender balance, work/life issues, harassment and a gender sensitive work environment. The Program Officer IPV provides input, guidance and recommendations on all gender perspectives in the work of Lifeline/Childline Zambia.

The Program Officer IPV is expected to advocate for greater attention to gender perspectives.

This requires the Program Officer IPV to understand Lifeline/Childline Zambia programs and how gender mainstreaming applies to Lifeline/Childline Zambia work.

Reporting to the Provincial Gender Coordinator this position will be based in the designated districts.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Assist Lifeline/Childline Zambia management to assess and identify gender knowledge needs and gaps in MECH programs;
  • Develop and execute an overall strategic action plan for gender mainstreaming at Lifeline/Childline Zambia in consultation with Lifeline/Childline Zambia stakeholders;
  • Develop and contribute to the basis of policy statements, frameworks, mandate, rationale and goals of the work of gender main streaming at Lifeline/Childline Zambia;
  • Conduct reviews of Lifeline/Childline Zambia strategies, proposals and grants and provide timely input and recommendations for gender integration and the inclusion of women in the implementation of programs and grants provided by Lifeline/Childline Zambia;
  • Co-ordinate training activities and develop a suite of tools for training on gender main streaming based on identified needs for Lifeline/Childline Zambia staff, in liaison with other organizations/contractors that can contribute towards this;
  • Represent Lifeline/Childline Zambia at developmental forums and liaise with gender focal points in other institutions for events where information on gender main streaming may be required to leverage Lifeline/Childline Zambia programs; and
  • Assist with respect to gender issues, the Monitoring and Evaluation team, in monitoring results emanating from the Lifeline/Childline Zambia program of work.

Key Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of a Degree in Social Sciences (e.g., Gender and Development, Anthropology, Public Policy, Developmental Studies or equivalent);
  • At least 5 years’ experience in advocacy for gender issues and evidence-based results in gender analysis and main streaming especially in institutions which deal with research and development;
  • Significant experience with gender issues and social impacts is required with some experience in relevant socio-economic and gender analysis frameworks;
  • Strong analytical ability to design, implement and evaluate gender main streaming options for promoting agricultural productivity growth.
