Senior Irrigation Technician FES Zambia Limited

FES is looking to employ a Senior Irrigation Technician, to service and install various irrigations systems. A candidate with extensive experience in irrigation systems specific electrical fault finding and troubleshooting will be preferred. Experience with assembling pump stations and pivots will be advantageous. The candidate will initially be based in Lusaka but will be required to work on projects for extended periods, in various locations and possibly also in neighbouring countries. The candidate may also be required to relocate to other areas in Zambia if necessary.

Skills required

• Ability to work independently on site,
• Ability to report findings and compose lists of materials required,
• Excellent communication skills are required. English must be of a high standard,
• Physically capable of work long hours outside in harsh weather conditions,
• An understanding and willingness to complete works within the project budget and timeline,
• Ability to troubleshoot especially on electrical components used in irrigation systems,
• Good understanding of repair and replacement of irrigation components, electrical and mechanical, in general,
• Diligent in the use, cleaning and general upkeep of all tools required,
• Ability to interpret installation drawings
• Ability to keep project daily staff registers and stock sheets,
• Ability to compile project progress reports and provide general feedback on the standing of the project,
• Must be computer literate and understand latest irrigation technology and software,
• Ability to provide operational training to new staff and clients personnel,
• Must be highly motivated, willing to learn and able to bring a positive energy to the workplace.

Qualifications and work experience required

• Suitable Diploma /Degree qualification in the Electrical field,
• Minimum of 5 to 10 years work experience in Agricultural/Irrigation field with exposure to large projects,
• Experienced in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting of irrigation systems and relevant components: specifically, the electrical side of pivots, pumps and starters and irrigation automation systems,
• Knowledge of survey equipment will be an advantage,
• Knowledge of solar equipment and it’s field application will be an advantage,
• Knowledge of construction of basic civil structures will be an advantage,
• Valid driver’s licence – required. Truck drivers licence – will be an advantage.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Daily installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the latest irrigation and solar systems,
• Interpretation and understanding of designs, drawings, and installation instructions,
• Coordination of project staff and workmanship quality control on site,
• Training of new FES installation staff,
• Travelling to various locations on a regular basis to conduct work,
• Do regular assessments and inspections of irrigation systems,
• Do modifications on existing systems,
• Stocktaking of stored equipment and of parts allocated to projects and,
• Compiling regular site reports
