About PayZ

The payment association of Zambia (PAYZ) was founded in 2018 and subsequently registered in 2019 and was recognized in terms of the constitution, being a payment system association registered as such in terms of the Societies Act Of Zambia CAP 119. The Bank of Zambia together with the Financial Sector Deepening Zambia (FSDZ) mobile money operator and non-bank payment service providers partnered to form the Payment Association of Zambia. The association serves as a joint industry platform from which members are able to collaborate in dealing with various issues of mutual interest including payment systems policy formulation, innovations and the conduct of public and private dialogue.

Role Summary

The association chief executive officer will be responsible to the elected executive for the effective conduct of the affairs of the association. The chief executive officer will recommend and participate in formulating the association’s mission, goals, objectives, and related policies.

Within that framework, the chief executive officer will plan, organise, coordinate, control, and direct association staff, programs, and activities. The chief executive officer will work closely with the association president and elected leaders to ensure that the association’s goals are achieved. The chief executive officer will also serve as staff liaison to all committees and provide liaison between committees and the elected executive.

Responsibilities

The Chief executive officer shall perform the following with appropriate delegations and within the limits of the association charter and bylaws, and policies established by the elected Executive;

Stakeholder Management

  • Plan and coordinate meetings of the board of directors and the elected officials of the association, as well as general membership meetings.
  • Monitor and assist elected officials and association committees.
  • Assist, serve, and cooperate with association presidents, officers, and directors.
  • Maintain an active interest in civic organisations and community betterment.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with other local and international associations.

Project Management

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of multiple projects
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant internal stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Delegate project tasks to other members of staff.
  • Track project performance, specifically to analyse the successful completion of short and long-term goals

Lead/Manage Secretariat

  • Establish administrative policies and procedures for headquarters functions.
  • Establish an organisational structure for the association office and related staffing structure.
  • Recruit, hire, train, promote, and terminate staff and administer an effective personnel program that includes position descriptions, performance standards, performance appraisals, and a compensation system.
  • Manage the association’s finances, including the preparation of an annual budget and long-range forecasts of needs.
  • Ensure the legal integrity of the association.
  • Review financial and non-financial reports to devise solutions or improvements

Research and Publications

  • Develop and maintain publications that are responsive to member needs.
  • Conduct research necessary to the association and inform the membership, elected officials, and others of the results as appropriate.
  • Maintain effective internal and external public relations.
  • Serves as spokesperson for the association in conjunction with the elected publicity official.
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of the Payments industry in Zambia

Membership Management

  • Develop and supervise effective membership development and membership services programs within the limits and facilities of the staff
  • Develop and conduct an education program in cooperation with the membership to advance the professional, technical, and managerial skills of the membership.

Requirements

  • Proven experience knowledge and impact in the Payments Industry/Financial Services in Zambia
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing the vision
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organisational and leadership skills
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • MSc/MA in business administration or relevant field
