We Effect is a development organisation founded by the Swedish cooperative movement in 1958 to support the development of democratic organisations and societies. We Effect works in around 20 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa through our regional offices in partnership with local CSO’s, farmer organisations, cooperative federations and other democratic organisations. We Effect is now recruiting a Regional Financial Controller. The position of Regional Financial Controller is part of the Regional Office in the Southern Africa Region in Lusaka, Zambia. The employment is for a fixed term period with a three months’ probation. However, probation may be extended up to another three months if need for more introduction to the job is required. Start date as soon as possible.

Main responsibilities

  • Financial management and cost efficiency of We Effect Southern Africa operations
  • Plan, carry out and follow up financial compliance monitoring and capacity building of all We Effect supported operations in Southern Africa
  • Lead and coordinate, support and train the Country Financial Controllers

General responsibilities are to ensure that procurements, audits, financial reports, budgeting, accounting for We Effect and partner organizations are carried out in accordance with We Effect guidelines and policies.

Roles / Key Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for implementation, monitoring and further development of the systems for financial management and administration of the We Effect Southern Africa Region to prevent corruption and improve cost efficiency.
  • Ensure that all recipients of We Effect funding – partner organisations or otherwise – are knowledgeable of and adhere to We Effect, Sida and other donor specific regulations.
  • Play an important role in developing competitive budgets in applications and make sure application requirements are met.
  • As a member of the Regional Management Team, the Regional Financial Controller shall actively contribute to the work and goals of the management teams.

About you
You have several years of experience in financial management in an international context and organisational development. You are mature and well-grounded. To succeed in the role your ability to organise, communicate and lead are of importance. You have excellent ability to plan, prioritize and organize your own work. You have an eye for details, the commitment, experience and tools to support your team to succeed in their roles. You have good social skills, broad networks and are a good communicator. You know what it takes to deliver results and ethical.

You share the organisation’s vision of a sustainable and just world for all, free from poverty.

Required qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working as a financial controller
  • A minimum of 2 years of management experience
  • Excellent skills in financial management and budget analysis
  • University degree within accounting or similar
  • In-depth knowledge of international institutional donor requirements, especially European
  • Experience of working in an INGO
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic outlook
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • With high skills in using excel
