Background of the organization

St John Zambia (formerly known as St John Ambulances) is a non-profit organization founded to serve humanity by way of providing First Aid and Ambulance Services as well as Primary Health Care to communities. We provide First Aid and Ambulance services at events.

The organization has been in existence since 1950, with focus in the provision of first aid trainings, emergency medical services, and the sale of first aid kits to fund its charitable community activities such as, Maternal Health Care and road safety promotion. We are an emergence responder organisation that aims to save lives.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a step change in St John Zambia’s income generation, marketing and sales of the First Aid services and products that the organisation provides. Through networking with the global St John Family, and utilising the strength of our global brand, we expect to see a 150% increase in our sales in year 1, and continued strong growth following that. This will help St John Zambia to fulfil our mission of being a global leader in the provision of Frist aid.

General functions

Ensure that the needed revenue is brought into the organisation through the sale of our first aid services

Provides a positive and proud face of St John Zambia

Ensure all involved understand and adhere to the code of conduct and regulations of St John ZambiaUndertakes and maintains data on implemented activities and prepares quantitative and qualitative reports, for decision making and strategic processes in St John Zambia

Flexible to fulfill any other duties that may arise.

Ability to network and collaborate with other St John Associations, regionally and globally to exchange ideas on how to raise the revenue of the organisation.

First Aid Training functions

Conduct First Aid trtrainings.

Prepares, plans and executes trainings and events around first aid

Ensures the quality standard of a training is adhered to at all times

Communicates with company and trainers to ensure both the clients and trainers are properly updated about the training and venue arrangements

Is the main contact person for St John Zambia trainers

Responsible for the first aid curriculum approval through the official Zambian registration bodies

Ensures the certification for the first aid trainers is approved and recognized in Zambia

Ensures that the St John volunteers that are actively involved with St John are up to date with trainings

Pro-actively communicates around bringing in strong trainings from outside Zambia to ensure that the quality of trainers is up to date

Develop and maintain client’s data base that shows date trained and expiration of their certificates’ and institute follow ups for certificate renewals.

Ensure that all successful participants receive officials certificates

Responsible for maintaining the certificate register.

First Aid at Events with ambulance services functions

Create demand, solicit and coordinate all events for first aid with ambulance services

Ensures all arrangements are made for the sport and other events that St John will be covering

Develops and keeps contact with potential organizations for first aid support and events.

Volunteer relations functions

Keeps track and knows all St John volunteers

Works a fair rotation of working with the volunteer trainers

Leads meetings and takes care of needs of active volunteer trainers

Assesses needs of volunteers and organizes trainings where needed

Handles all emergency calls adequately and arranges the needed volunteers

Oversees and supervises all St John volunteers

Facilitates recruitment and selection of volunteers

Motivates through capacity building and mentorship to involve volunteers and share the work and experience

Retains cadets and other junior and senior volunteers

Ensures that the St John volunteer structure has been adhered to (ie. uniform, ranks).

Communication and Marketing

Is responsible for marketing of St John’s activities

Follows through on marketing related decisions and ensures all materials are in place

Ability to scan the market and formulating strategies that will attract more clients to our services

Ability to design a salable and attractive IEC materials like brochures and pamphlets.

Create demand and seal business in relation to first Aid

To network and develop business relationships resulting in successful income generation for St John Zambia

To market St John Zambia to potential and existing clients and public at large in order to make it the number one choice for first aid trainings

Assesses customer’s needs on first aid support and training and provides the required information about services, processes, procedures and guidelines

Responsible for all branding activities of St John Zambia

Results oriented, experience in meeting donor/clients requirements including timely report writing.

Experience in collaborating and working with stakeholders including corporates, civil society organization, business houses, government ministries and departments

Demonstrate understanding in managing and implementing project budgets

Demonstrate management and control of budgets.

Demonstrate team work, collaboration and consultation between Finance and Programs in adherence to budget lines.

Educational back ground and related experience:

·         Degree in business Studies/Social Sciences. Certificate/Diploma in First Aid/Occupational Health and safety is mandatory. Project planning and Management, Social media marketing, Fundraising, Resource mobilization e. t. c, will be applicable to the position.

·         3-5 years of experience in the same or similar position will be considered

·         Coordinating and managerial experience of a minimum of 2 years in a related field

Other needed skills

Marketing and sales

Knowledge in health and safety.

Excellent reading and writing skills in English

Knowledge of basic accounting and resource mobilization techniques including proposal writing.

Proficient skills in Microsoft Work, Excel and PowerPoint.
