How can you make a difference?

The objective of the internship is to support the efforts of UNICEF and MoE to strengthen and maintain the digital learning for children, especially disadvantaged. The intern is expected to contribute to the information compilation and documentation of digital e-learning opportunities and contents available for primary and secondary level learners in Zambia. Assist MoE with development of online and offline e-learning modalities, such as learning apps and web-based learning, and provide useful insights to strengthen Zambia’s digital and e-learning and make them more attractive and accessible to young learners.

Under the direct supervision of the Technology for Development Specialist and Education Specialist – Adolescent Learning and Skills Development, the Intern’s major duties/responsibilities and output expectations will be:

Enhance the existing e-learning platform

Together with MoE, serves as help desk to trouble shoot and further increase the number of digital contents in the Learning Passport platform

Support the utilisation of the e-learning platform

Conduct survey, key informant interviews and classroom observations to gather clients’ voices (learners) to enhance the quality of the digital learning

Undertake interviews with student teachers (students of teacher colleges, universities) to understand the types of trainings available to them.

Conduct mapping of existing digital contents that are not yet part of the MoE e-learning platform and review the contents

Support MoE to develop the digital learning strengthening plan

Based on the experience and evidence generated during the internship period, prepare a set of recommendations with practical action plan to support MoE’s digital learning

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

University level student in IT engineering (e.g. software) and related field.
Practical experiences in IT/digital solutions and digital learning preferred
Good understanding of the digital platform and knowledge and skills in establishing and maintaining such platform
Have excellent academic performance shown through university records.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a local language is an asset.
Skills and Competencies:

Candidate should have very good communication skills in English and one of the Zambian local languages
Candidate should have proactive attitudes to support MoE in the areas of digital learning
Candidate should have good analytical skills
Candidate should possess good communication and organisational skills
Candidate should possess ability to work well in a diverse team
Training in Monitoring & Evaluation and data analysis is an advantage
Planning and budgeting skills is an asset
Learning elements

This position is based in the education team in UNICEF and the intern will interact with education specialists and other programme specialists in UNICEF, Ministry of Education and other government entities, and other development partners. This position offers excellent learning opportunities in understanding and applying data principles in a multi-sectoral environment.

Evaluation will be done at the end of the internship by the supervisor and intern. A copy of the evaluation will be provided to the intern and the original submitted to HR.

Remarks:

Fees and Honorarium: According to UNICEF’s internship program administrative instruction, no compensation will be provided. Where appropriate, interns may be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred during official travel authorised by UNICEF. A monthly stipend enough to cover transport costs of in Zambian currency shall be paid for the internship duration (6 months).

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
