Provide primary eye care for patients, test the vision sharpness, prescribe corrective lenses, and an expert in handling equipment that is used to examine the eyes of the patient.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Use prescription information from the doctor and the patient’s preferences, face shape and other factors to help select the appropriate pair of eyeglasses, frames and lenses.
Give product recommendations to patients based on their vision needs and lifestyle, such as frame construction, lens material and lens coatings
Take accurate measurements of each patient’s face and optical details to ensure a comfortable and proper fit before ordering frames
Adjust new frames using optical tools or pliers to get a closer and more accurate fit on the patient’s face when the patient has problems with comfort or poor vision
Instruct patients on how to use contact lenses by showing them how to clean the lenses, insert them, remove them easily and properly care for contact lenses
Maintain a clean and visually appealing daily optical display by organizing the stock of eyeglasses, sunglasses and accessories. Complete additional office tasks regularly such as preparing paperwork for patient insurance payments, ordering inventory and tracking orders in the system
Receive orders and accurately interpret customer requirements. Select lenses in accordance with company processes ensuring that the correct material, bevel and sizing standards are achieved.
Ensure that the correct lenses are fitted into the correct frames and fitted without gaps. Edge the lenses to the correct specification avoiding any over-edging
Advise the Glazing Team Leader, Production Manager or General Manager of any non-conformities and errors
Finish each lens and frame to ensure the finished product is clean and ready for final inspection
A comprehensive understanding of lenses, glazing procedures and Opticians expectations, as well as an extensive understanding of the manufacturing processes in an Optical lab.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
Experience: 5 years plus
Education Level: Degree
Qualifications: Degree holder with a minimum BSC
Software: Proficiency with computers and Microsoft programs
Knowledge Of: Experience in a retail optical department or a similar environment
Skills to: Excellent attention to detail, excellent customer service and communication skills
Ability to: work to deadlines
Other Requirements: Experience of working in a fast faced, quality focused environment
