Purpose of the role:

To manage and oversee the successful assembly, commissioning, and ongoing support of Ultra Class Mining Machinery.

Reports to: Branch Operations Manager

Branch: Kansanshi (S3 Project)

Key Responsibilities:

The Machine Assembly Manager will be required to perform the following tasks:

Safety Assurance

  • Ensure Health and Safety standards, Regulations and Procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Participate in safety meetings.
  • Work hand in hand with the Safety coordinator to ensure all incidents in the Section are reported, remedial measures enforced, and appropriate safety training conducted.
  • Ensure employees wear correct PPE at all times and ensure they adhere to the policy.

Assembly Works

  • Lead the Mining Assembly team and ensure that all Assembly tasks are completed to Hitachi’s high QA/QC standard.
  • Ensure that all build related issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all build risks are identified and managed through the appropriate risk management process and resolved on the Project prior to Handover.
  • Establish a close working relationship with the Project Stakeholders, including other external contractors, ensuring that the Assembly Team’s activities are clearly communicated, and opportunities exist for 2-way discussion and feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Ensure processes are completed in accordance with acceptable engineering standards.
  • Identify workshop needs proactively and address them accordingly.
  • Ensure processes are completed within set time frame and agreed targets met (profit margins).

Finance and Cost Management

  • Take care to minimize waste.
  • Prepare and manage the Department Budget.
  • Designing and analyzing reports to assess key functional matrices to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Provide feedback on cost saving initiatives and suggest methods to decrease expenditure in area of control.
  • Ensure feedback for target results is provided accurately and on time.

Administration

  • Must be able to plan and schedule for support resources while adhering to agreed plans of the delivery schedule.
  • Weekly/monthly reports to the Branch Operations Manager made accurately and on time.
  • Ensure job cards and work orders are submitted on time and that all necessary details are captured correctly (including time started and finished, parts used, additional work required with parts lists needed; the number of people for the task and duration – hours to complete.
  • Ensure processes are completed within set time frame.
  • Identify workshop needs proactively and address them accordingly.
  • Ensure agreed targets met (profit margins).

Customer Relations

  • Must be able to interface effectively with diverse stakeholder groups who have different levels of operational and technical expertise.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in teams and networks to achieve overall customer and company goals.
  • Ensure proactive customer needs analysis reports are performed continuously.
  • Provide accurate advice that is aligned with OEM and the customer’s needs/ expectations.
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with customers.
  • Queries quickly resolved efficiently and effectively.

People Management

  • Set performance management KPI’s, conduct regular reviews with employees and give feedback.
  • Training developing and performance monitoring activities of Assembly staff.
  • Responsible for supervising and appraising subordinates in Department.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have a full Grade 12 certificate.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Additional qualifications in Business Administration/Logistics will be added advantage.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ progressive experience preferably in a Mining Equipment Industry.
  • Must have experience in assembly and/or manufacturing of company products.
  • Full Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Valid Silicosis Certificate
  • Valid driver’s license
