1. DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY

JOB TITLE: Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the following specializations:

  • Geostatistics/Mineral Resource Geology (01 Position)
  • Engineering Geology (01 Position)
  • Exploration Geophysics (01 Position)
  • Mineralogy (01 Position)

Job Purpose

To perform teaching duties, supervise student projects and assess dissertations, undertake original individual and collaborative research, and perform other related administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing teaching duties at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Undertaking original individual and collaborative research leading to significant advances in their field and its publication in national or international refereed journals and collaboration with peers in other universities and academic institutions and keeping abreast of recent advances in the field.
  • Supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including coaching students by taking them outdoor for geological field mapping/project classes.
  • Involvement in curriculum development.
  • Involvement in community service in the area of specialization.
  • Setting and assessment of examination papers and assessing a portfolio of evidence.
  • Assist with administrative duties in the department and/or school.
  • Attendance of developmental workshops for teaching and learning, and participation in tutoring and mentoring activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Position for Geostatistics/Resource Geology

  1. Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with a minimum of 5 “O” Level Credits or better in English and Mathematics
  2. Bachelor of Science in Geology or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  3. A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s Degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Mineral Resource Geology, Mine Geostatistics or its equivalent.
  4. An earned PhD in Geostatistics or Resource Geology.
  5. Demonstrated experience in either academia or industry.
  6. Membership to the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is a must.

Position for Engineering Geology

  1. Grade 12 or Form V Certificate with a minimum of 5 “O” Level Credits or better in English and Mathematics
  2. Bachelor of Science in Geology or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  3. A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Engineering Geology or its equivalent.
  4. An earned PhD in Engineering Geology or equivalent.
  5. Demonstrated experience in either academia or industry.
  6. Membership to the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is a must.

Position for Exploration Geophysics

  1. Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Geology or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  3. A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Exploration Geophysics or its equivalent.
  4. An earned PhD in Geophysics or equivalent.
  5. Demonstrated experience in either academia or industry.
  6. Membership to the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is a must.

Position for Exploration Geochemistry

  1. Grade 12 or Form V Certificate minimum of 5 “O” Levels with credit or better in English and Mathematics.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Geology or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  3. A Master’s degree in the same area as the Bachelor’s degree is a must. The Master’s degree must command respect in Exploration Geochemistry or its equivalent.
  4. An earned PhD in Exploration Geochemistry or equivalent.
  5. Demonstrated experience in either academia or industry.
  6. Membership to the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is a must.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to manage and undertake out of station geological field mapping activities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in discharge duties.
  • Be registered with the Professional Institute Board.
  • Developed a strong research program, outstanding publication record in high-quality refereed journals.
  • Demonstrate experience in teaching, proven research and publication background.
  • Knowledge about computer software/applications in the relevant disciplines.
  • Strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
