Role Purpose

The role is responsible for coordinating and delivering field trials in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, to generate quality data for use in bio dossiers, project decision making, and generation of insights for the Market Development, Sales, and Customer marketing functions. The responsibilities also include technical and resource planning for field trials, budgeting, vendor engagement and relationship management, and people management for field temporary staff.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

// Undertake allocated trials safely, efficiently, and to the required standard, in order to provide useable data for the process of registration of new and existing active substances/products and determine the validity of proof-of-concept projects.

// In collaboration with Agronomic Solutions, create protocols and provide in season support for peers within the Field Agronomist team.

// Actively provide information and insights from field trials on project developments to Agronomic Solutions Managers by updating SCOUT continuously throughout the season.

// Ensure maintenance of equipment for consistently accurate and safe application of chemicals to trial sites and maintain storage facility in a professional manner.

// Accurate and prompt updating of the trial databases, to ensuring data is available in a timely manner to support decision making and product development.

// Actively participate in training, motivation, and safety of temporary employees.

//Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and procedures to ensure continued compliance with in-country Health & Safety regulations.

// Support the Regulatory Science team responsible for the Southern African Countries with dossier submissions and supporting documentation.

// Manage interactions with partner Contract Research Organizations (CRO) before, during, and after the completion of trials to ensure proper technical planning for trials, inputs facilitation, and collection of trial data.

// Representing Bayer in trials reviews with all relevant external stakeholders such as the Malawi annual ATCC trials review meeting.

// Administration – raising of requisitions for all functional and collaborating with local service providers for supply of inputs and other materials required for the trials.

// Ordering of samples through collaboration with the various entities for import and export permits.

// Forecasting expenses and incorporating into a budget on an annual basis.

// Following up on vendor payments to ensure payments are made on time.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

// A minimum of a university undergraduate degree in agriculture or crop science related fields, with a bias for crop protection.

// At least 2 years’ experience in field agronomy.

// Strong analytical skills

// Knowledge of crops and practical cropping systems as well as experience with field trials and field-testing methodology, including digital.

// Excellent relationship management and teamwork skills

// Good organization and planning skills

// Flexibility and reliability

// Good networking and communications skills

// Experience in data science and analytics including working with database systems.

// Valid driving license

// Relevant competence certificates for spraying
