VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT: LEAD MECHANICAL ENGINEER – FEASIBILITY STUDY

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer – Feasibility Study to join the Lumwana Mine Expansion Project Feasibility Study Team.

Reporting to the Project Manager – Feasibility Study, you will be responsible to provide professional mechanical engineering design and project management services for the feasibility study of the project. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best teams. You will be expected to perform your duties in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Provide guidance and technical support on mechanical engineering for the feasibility study of the project.
Prepare engineering analyses, specifications, capital and operating cost estimates of key equipment and contract works for the project.
Provide input on mechanical engineering designs and monitor and ensure effective design, project controls, and quality.
Perform a feasibility study for mechanical design by creating associated design criteria.
Estimate CAPEX by identifying major equipment along with their purchasing cost and associated lead times.
Prepare major equipment specifications, datasheets, requisitions and bid evaluations.
Perform engineering calculations to support design decisions.
Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts.
Plan and manage budgets.
Develop and implement a quality management system with associated quality control programs.
Provide direction on mechanical scope and requirements to the suppliers based on specifications included in the procurement agreement.
Ensure that manpower, equipment, tools, materials, and design necessary to support the project schedule will be available.
Perform mechanical and structural integrity assessments of critical mechanical equipment currently installed on site.
Conduct Finite element analysis, CAD design, stress analysis and non-destructive testing.
Review of 3D Modelling and manufacturing drawings data packs.
Maintain an up-to-date database of critical spares and verify availability of common spares.
Perform structural and mechanical design verification in accordance with relevant international codes and standards.
Review business cases for application for expenditure of capital.
Stay abreast of developments in technology and find application of this technology on the operation to reduce cost, increase uptime and improve safety.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Full Grade 12 School Certificate

A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Registered Professional Engineer. Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience in the mining industry, with a focus on feasibility studies and capital project execution.
Computer Skills – must have strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook).
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Knowledgeable and experienced with mechanical equipment. A comprehensive compensation package including bonuses and site-specific benefits.
