Civil Engineer and General Foreman Private Company In Lusaka

A Zambian engineering company based in Lusaka is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the positions of Civil Engineer and General Foreman.

1. Civil Engineer

Job Summary

The Civil Engineer shall ensure the successful and efficient execution of construction projects by balancing technical expertise with effective communication and project management skills. Under the guidance and direction of the Managing Director, the Civil Engineer shall be responsible for overseeing various aspects of construction related projects including but not limited to, preparation of bidding documents, attendance of site visits, project management, site supervision, quality control, safety compliance, team collaboration and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with other stakeholders.
  • Regularly inspect construction sites to ensure work is progressing according to plans, specifications, and quality standards
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and other team members to facilitate smooth communication and collaboration.
  • Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure that construction work meets specified standards and regulations.
  • Manage the use of construction materials, ensuring they meet required specifications and are used efficiently.
  • Address and resolve technical issues that may arise during construction, providing solutions to unforeseen challenges.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of project activities, including daily reports, weekly progress updates, and any changes or deviations.
  • Monitor project expenses, analyze costs, and contribute to accurate cost estimation. Work to ensure that the project stays within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and permits. Obtain necessary approvals and permits for construction activities.
  • Interface with clients to provide project updates, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction with the progress and outcome of the construction projects.
  • Actively identify and address challenges or conflicts that may arise, fostering a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related degree.
  • Member of EIZ with valid Practicing License
  • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience including at least one year as a site engineer on a major construction project.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft projects and excel)
  • Ability to take responsibility and handle pressure.
  • Hardworking and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of site challenges.
  • Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills

General Foreman

Job Purpose: To supervise works at construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans.
  • Read project plans, drawings, specifications, and blueprints, create and manage schedules and monitor attendance of the crew.
  • Supervise construction sites to ensure work is progressing according to plans, specifications, and quality standards
  • Implement quality control procedures to ensure that construction work meets specified standards and regulations
  • Manage the use of construction materials, ensuring they meet required specifications and are used efficiently
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of site activities, including daily reports, weekly progress updates, and any changes or deviations.
  • Prepare schedules and monitor attendance of workers.
  • Allocate general and daily responsibilities.
  • Supervise and train workers and trades staff
  • Ensure manpower and resources are adequate
  • Ensure all safety precautions and quality standards are met
  • Supervise the use of machinery and equipment
  • Resolve disputes between the workers.
  • Monitor expenditure and ensure it remains within budget
  • Resolve problems when they arise and report on progress to managers, engineers etc.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Diploma in Civil Engineering
  • Member of EIZ with valid Practicing License
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience at supervisory level
  • Able to work independently and supervise construction projects
  • Ability to hire, train, and supervise workers
  • Expertise in sourcing and supervising construction materials, such as tools and equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
