Job Purpose

To ensure that the Bank of Zambia and the regional payment systems operate in accordance with laid down rules, regulations, policies and procedures in order to make sure that the systems are available, reliable, efficient and secure.

Main Accountabilities

  • Operate the Zambia Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (ZIPSS) (also known as the Real-time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Systems) to ensure system availability.
  • Ensure that participants adherence to the laid down rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Monitor market operations to ensure liquidity positions are in accordance with established operational and administrative framework for Systems operated by Bank of Zambia.
  • Provide technical support to Bank of Zambia operated payment systems, to ensure that all participants are effectively supported.
  • Coordinate Systems developments and provide input on enhancements to ZIPSS infrastructure to ensure necessary upgrades are performed.
  • Manage the help desk to ensure timely respond to customer queries for both the ZIPSS and regional payment systems.
  • Monitoring settlements on the ZIPSS and interconnections with other systems.
  • Monitoring the connectivity of participants to the Systems in order to ensure that every participant is able to access the BOZ operated payment systems.
  • Monitoring and enforcing all participation rules and security policies.
  • Produce detailed daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the performance of the ZIPSS.
  • Maintain participants on the Systems, Systems calendars, billing Systems and daily operating timetables according to the rules and regulations.
  • Compile statistical and non-statistical periodic and ad-hoc reports for management and publication on the BOZ website.
  • Raise incident reports.
  • Promote usage of electronic payment methods.
  • Conduct induction and on-going training to users of the ZIPSS
  • Maintain a risk register for the department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BA/BSc/BBA/ACCA/CIMA Banking, Finance, Economics, ICT or equivalent
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience
  • Grade 12 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Levels (Credit or better)

Key Knowledge and Attributes

  • Knowledge in Economics, Banking and Finance
  • Strong analytical and writing abilities
  • Relevant experience in a reputable organization
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of payments systems
  • Ability to work well in a team, share technical knowledge and experience
  • Trouble shooting expertise
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • ICT Knowledge



Bank of Zambia Conditions of Service will apply.  Please note that the positions are on Fixed Term Contracts of Employment for three (3) years and renewable subject to good performance.
