Job Purpose

Solar Installation Technician will assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules. Perform minor electrical work such as current checks.

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

• Create or interpret the solar panel installation plans, mapping out the steps of the installation and where all of the components will be installed.
• Shall carry out assessments to calculate recommended off-grid/on-grid solar systems for clients.
• Configure PV systems based on site conditions and customers’ needs and expectations; connect panels to the power grid.
• Follow building standards and codes when installing panels and support structures.
• Inspect electrical installation and wiring.
• Test operating voltages; calibrates to ensure systems are within acceptable power limits
• Ensure that Solar equipment is weather sealed
• Prepare a bill of material based on the assessment done for the client.
• Upon instruction, proceed further to assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with the recommended assessments.
• Measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar PV modules.
• Performing electrical work such as installation of inverters and battery banks, installation of changeover switches, and performing safety electrical checks.

 Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or similar.
• Must have a minimum of 2+ years of Solar installation experience required.
• Certifications in Solar Installations will be an added plus.
• Computer Literate – Proficient with Microsoft software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Must be customer-oriented with a professional demeanour.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical wiring and equipment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Must be physically fit and able to carry panels and other heavy equipment
• Able to frequently travel to and from customer locations country-wide – daily/monthly.
• Must be able to work at great heights.
• Must be able to endure prolonged periods of kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing ladders.
