Specialist – Heavy Mobile Equipment First Quantum Minerals Ltd (FQM)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To safely supervise and execute mechanical maintenance work on Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) according to the prescribed standards, ensuring the safety of self and others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE

• Adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, quality, finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company, relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Fault Diagnosis and repair activities on a fleet of Komatsu, Volvo, CAT, Bell and Hitachi earthmoving machines both in a workshop and filed environment.
• Conduct regular inspections on all equipment responsible for, listen to operator complaints, ensure that any defects are noted and repaired.
• Placing orders for components.
• Supervise a team of mechanics carrying out repairs, guiding them and ensuring that the repair is done to the correct standard and specification.
• Ensure that the tasks are completed within the planned timeframe and cost.
• Test machines and equipment, using various testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of the machines and their systems.
• Verify and maintain equipment serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
• Keep accurate records of materials and labour.
• Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
• Keep any special supply requirements up to date, by verifying that stock is available.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
• Provide training and development opportunities for all direct reports on an on-going basis.
• Perform any other duties as instructed by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 Certificate with Mechanical Trade Certificate /Diploma – Diesel (N6 level as minimum)
• Certificate – Hydraulic & Electro Hydraulics
• A minimum of 15 years relevant
• Experience with Volvo, Komatsu, CAT, Bell and Hitachi equipment is essential
• Experience in diagnosing and repairing Hydraulic and Electrical systems is essential
