The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Zambia invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the under listed position:

Job Title: DRIVER

Location: Country Office-Lusaka

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety standards during transportation of staff, drugs and laboratory specimens.
  • Ensures timely transportation for the admin offices, clinics, and RTP programs when needed.
  • Picks up, drops off, and delivers documents, quotes, invoices, financial reports, logistical requirements and at times cash for all AHF programs.
  • Picks up and drops off AHF guests from/to the airport or from any other point of departure.
  • Maintains vehicle logbook, accounting for all mileage and fuel consumption/ costs, minimizes fuel cost and does not permit anyone to drive the vehicle, unless authorized to do.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle including daily cleaning inside and weekly (minimum) car wash.
  • Maintains vehicle in good mechanical order and submits weekly log sheets to support this.
  • Reports repairs and arranges any replacements immediately with approval from the immediate supervisor.
  • Ensure that vehicle under his/her care is secured from loss or damage at all times.
  • Never drives the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Observes the non-smoking rule in the vehicle at all times.
  • Ensures that organization’s vehicles are always serviced in time and provides a report to the administrative assistant on all the service details.
  • Make regular monthly reports about the mechanical conditions of the vehicles and advise the administrative assistant on the required repairs.
  • Ensure that vehicles are securely parked while not on duty.
  • Makes timely reports on the due date of insurance and road licenses and work with the administrative assistant to ensure vehicles are adequately covered throughout the year.
  • Ensure that vehicles are well fuelled prior to any journey and work with the administrative assistant to make arrangements for refueling while on the journey.
  • Seek relevant authority to ensure that there is fuel reserve at the authorized fuel stations is replenished in time and assist the administrative assistant to update data regularly.
  • Works out a schedule for vehicle movement in collaboration with the relevant staff that is accommodative of all staff needs for transportation.
  • Drives safely and responsibly at all times, must be knowledgeable about, and comply with Zambia driving / traffic and parking rules & regulations.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to speak fluent English and any Local language.

Ability to work under pressure, after hours and occasional weekends

Education and / or Experience:

High school education and one to three months related experience and/or training related to driving and road safety; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Previous driving employment at least 2 years uninterrupted.

Must have a Valid Driver’s license, held consecutively for at least 5 years.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s

Ability to perform these operations using units of Zambian money and weight measurement volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of MS Word/MS Excel software.
