Position Title: Operations and Conservation Supervisor

Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 20 national parks and protected areas in 11 countries covering over 17 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe
Job Purpose
The Operations and Conservation Supervisor (OCS) is a key member of the Kafue National Park (KNP) team, playing an integral role as a link between Senior Management, Department Heads and on the ground operations. The positions’ responsibilities vary greatly and these include but are not limited to:
- Logistical Management: Assist with all logistical management aspects of KNP, including assisting Law Enforcement, Technical, Community, Commercial and Finance Departments to achieve their objectives
- Park Infrastructure and Asset Management: assist with the management of all infrastructure and assets vehicles, equipment and tools through prompt reporting of any maintenance problems to the Workshop Manager and FOM
- Conservation Management: Oversee the general works team and fire team to achieve the conservation management goals; assist with Conservation Management tasks, which include fire management, wildlife introductions/removals, wildlife monitoring, alien plant control, and riverine health projects
- Staff Management and Supervision: Day to day management of staff under your supervision, setting tasks and overseeing these, ensuring exemplary work standards, maintain staff discipline through the company’s code of conduct and conditions of service, and overseeing general staff related administration
- Overseeing all operations in the absence of the Field Operations Manager
- Any further reasonable and lawful request made to you by the FOM or Park Manager
Basic Qualifications:
- A suitable tertiary degree in Environmental Management, Wildlife Management, Conservation Management, Forestry or other relevant qualification
- 3 years’ work experience, while experience as a Supervisor will be an added advantage
- A valid professional driving licence (motor vehicle) with no restrictions or endorsements.
- A heavy-duty vehicle, and/or motorbike, and/or coxswain licence would be an advantage
- Excellent English language skills
- Strong report writing and public speaking skills
- Good computer understanding with knowledge of Microsoft office
