Claims Manager Nico Insurance Zambia Limited

NICO Insurance Zambia Limited, a general insurance company, has been operating in Zambia since 1st October 1997, and has branches in Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola, Livingstone and Chipata. NICO Insurance Zambia Limited is a member of NICO Group of Companies operating in Malawi, and Sanlam through Sanlam Emerging Markets. The Company is now seeking to identify a qualified individual to be engaged as a Claims Manager.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Claims Manager shall be responsible for reducing the loss ratio by avoiding leakage whilst maintaining excellent claims service and provide leadership for the claims function at Head Office.

Main duties will include the following:

  • Ensure all claims are proactively handled in a fair and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure prompt registration of claims in accordance with company guidelines after receipt of notification and set accurate reserves.
  • Ensure strict adherence to customer service level agreements and set company operational requirements.
  • Ensure clients are regularly and promptly updated on statuses of their claims.
  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of customer complaints.
  • Ensure repair costs are appropriate/in line with repairer’s contracts and parts suppliers prices.
  • Scrutinize claims thoroughly to ensure that damages are tallying with the circumstances of a loss.
  • Carry out inspections/assessments of motor and non-motor claims promptly.
  • Manage the repairers to ensure that they comply with terms of the contract and agreed turnaround time of repairs to avoid/reduce additional losses.
  • Ensure timely appointments of Loss Adjusters/Assessors through the Chief Operations Officer.
  • Ensure that all salvages are secured and sold at reasonable prices as per policy guidelines.
  • Ensure litigation claims are settled within Court Orders.
  • Ensure timely preparation of claims reports as required by management on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Ensure successful month end closing for the claims department.
  • Ensure claims are processed within the Underwriting terms and conditions.
  • Ensure timely delivery of subrogation letters and refer all subrogation cases to the Subrogation & Recoveries department.
  • Assist in providing strategic direction to the claims department in line with company objectives.
  • Assist in ensuring that the company is compliant with existing regulatory requirements and ensure that it adapts to newly introduced regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with the claim’s manual procedure.

Requirements:

  • Have a first degree in Insurance and preferably an Advanced Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Institute of Insurance or equivalent.
  • Have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience, three (3) of which should be at managerial level.
  • Proven knowledge of insurance standards and procedures.
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Sound independent judgement and high integrity.
  • Paid-up member of Insurance Association of Zambia.
