Job description:

Purpose of the Role:

The Officer Strata Control, is responsible and accountable for providing strata control services and support to the Mining Operations Department to ensure safety and optimal ore extraction as well implement and apply strata control measures within the assigned area of the business

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Conduct slope performance audits.
Gathering pit geotechnical data and information through mapping and logging
Installation, maintenance and management of slope stability monitoring devices.
Observing and determining geology and mining practices / conditions.
Identifying potential bench failure modes (kinematic analyses in Dips).
Overseeing and reviewing the tasks and activities of the Rock Engineering Observers.
Investigating slope instability issues.
Capturing and representing data and information in line with organizational and stakeholder requirements.
Accurate and timeous reporting of data and information.
Recommending on the safety and productivity of the mining environment
Adherence to rock engineering practices and principles.
Adherence to standardization requirements, policies, procedures and operating standards related to strata control services and support.
Resolving or escalating operational strata control related queries or breakdowns declared.
Reviewing and analysing effectiveness of operational strata control processes.
Reviewing strata control data and information.
Participating in the identification of defects and improvement opportunities.
Improving strata control processes.
Successful teamwork and collaboration with stakeholders.
Coaching and on-the-job training to Rock Engineering Observers.
Adherence to organisational and legislative safety requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

Grade 12 School Certificate.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering.
2+ years’ experience in a large hard rock open pit mining environment.
South African Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certification.
SADC Driver’s License.
Work experience in the mining sector will be an added advantage.
Blasting License.
EIZ and ERB registration.
Current driving license.

Knowledge & Skills:

Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office & Pronto).
Application of Automated systems and Technologies (Numerical Modelling Packages, RADAR software, applications and troubleshooting, Sirovision).
Data extraction and capturing.
Data gathering and integration.
Data interpretation, representation and presentation.
Able to visualise and conceptualise 3D drawings and pit layouts.
