Game Rangers International has been operating in Zambia since 2008 to support the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to protect wildlife and wild spaces. We take a holistic approach to wildlife conservation through resource protection, community outreach and wildlife rescue.
The GRI Wildlife Rescue Vet will provide routine, preventive and emergency medical care for all wildlife within the care of GRI related projects, as well as providing a supportive role to the DNPW Vet Unit in the response and in-situ support to wildlife in distress. Health research is incorporated into this role as well as a One-Health approach, supporting with the control and prevention of zoonotic diseases. The Wildlife Rescue Vet will be responsible for reporting, planning, veterinary supplies and equipment as well training opportunities for veterinary interns and students.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Zambian Citizen
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from accredited university in Zambia or abroad
• Competent use of relevant medical technologies necessary for making proper diagnosis and treatment decisions
• Computer literate (proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for email communication)
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Chinyanja and English
• Works well independently and as part of a team
• Great organizational skills
• Be flexible and willing to respond to emergency and after-hours requests as required
• Ability to make quick, sound and decisive judgments, often times under pressure
Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
• Advanced certificate in first aid and safety
• Advanced certificate in “Wildlife Chemical Immobilizations’
• Certified in dangerous drugs use
• Confident and experienced use of immobilizing equipment including dart guns and pole syringes
