Production Manager (Maize Mill) Brilliance Executive Management Consultancy

Job Purpose
The Production Manager will be responsible for supervising the overall processes, manufactured products, and production personnel in a maize mill from grain intake to manufactured products. Set daily production priorities for operators. Verifies and ensures that manufactured products are at optimum product performance levels meeting customer’s quality standards. Liaise closely with the senior management team on production requirements and scheduling. Be responsible for managing an effective, efficient, and safe manufacturing operation.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Set daily production priorities for operators.
  • Verifies and ensures products are being produced to customer standards
  • Supervises mill personnel to maintain productivity, plant cleanliness, and overall flour mill performance.
  • Maintain and improve upon production efficiencies, waste, reduction, and process improvement.
  • Maintains and improves upon production efficiencies, waste reduction, and process improvements.
  • Follows, understands, and trains team in all areas of policies and procedures, including quality and production SOPs, safety standards and GMPs
  • Develop standard operating procedures and planned maintenance for the assigned maize mill processes and equipment.
  • Ensures required company records and forms are maintained. Reports any defective materials or questionable conditions to plant management and/or maintenance.
  • Ensure to follow understand, and train assigned team in all areas of policies and procedures quality, production standard operating procedures and safety standards.
  • Promotes company vision and supports plant culture.
  • Develop SOPs and PMs for flour mill processes and equipment

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and quality focus.
  • Management experience especially supervisory and team-building skills.
  • Must have excellent mechanical aptitude and strong math skills
  • Able to work with hand tools and make operational adjustments to equipment
  • Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualification and Experience

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Degree or Advanced Diploma in Milling Studies, Engineering or related
  • A business management related qualification will be an added advantage
  • Must have a minimum (5) years’ experience in an integrated maize milling operations.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in
    supervision/management, in the food industry, preferably within milling
  • Able to communicate effectively with customers, visitors, and team members.
  • Must have the ability to engage and influence internal stakeholders, particularly direct reports.
  • Experienced in food safety audit
