Job Title: Advisor, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

Background 

John Snow Health Limited (JSH), a public health organization dedicated to improving the provision of public health services in Zambia and the region, is recruiting for an Advisor, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for the USAID-funded Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (CHEKUP II). CHEKUP II aims to address the needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those most at risk of acquiring HIV and contribute to HIV mitigation and epidemic control. In addition, the program seeks to improve the health outcomes of priority populations in the highest HIV-burden provinces of Zambia.

Description

The Advisor, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programming provides strategic and technical leadership for high-quality, evidence-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Gender Based Violence prevention programming and service delivery targeted at project beneficiaries in CHEKUP II’s intervention districts.

This full-time position is based in Lusaka, Zambia, supervised by the Technical Director, Priority Populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic, technical and programmatic support to all Activity areas related to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and GBV programming in CHEKUP II implementation districts
  • Conduct a landscape analysis of available mental health and psychosocial support services to understand available resources, referrals, and client insights related to service quality and potential improvements in each district.
  • Provide capacity development to other Project Staff on MHPSS and GBV Programming
  • Act as the focal point person for CHEKUP II Child Safeguarding Policy and initiatives
  • Facilitate implementation of JSH and CHEKUP II’s Child Safeguarding Policy in project sites
  • Provide annual training to all staff and CHWs on child safeguarding, CHEKUP II’s organizational child safeguarding policy, and convey reporting structures to all staff, DREAMS mentors, and CHWs.
  • Lead the team in planning and providing technical assistance in implementing and monitoring MHPSS and GBV programmes in CHEKUP II districts.
  • Facilitate the training of relevant staff on GBV – LIVES and other USAID-approved and mandatory GBV and MHSPSS approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with other project staff, facilitating policy dialogue and technical representation related to CHEKUP II’s MHPSS and GBV Programming.
  • Ensure effective programme and project result-based management of CHEKUP-II’s targets for MHPSS and GBV interventions
  • Effectively manage relationships with the government and other partners.
  • Provide support for timely and quality implementation of annual work plans for USAID CHEKUP II.
  • Identify critical gaps in knowledge and understanding, and identify promising and innovative MHPSS and GBV Programming approaches.
  • Implement and adhere to JSH’s personnel, financial, operations and fraud management policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Technical Director – Priority Populations consistent with CHEKUP II’s objectives.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in clinical, health psychology or relevant field
  • At least five years of progressive work experience with PEPFAR-funded MHPSS and GBV Programming and integrated HIV/AIDS programme in an INGO setup.
  • Hands-on experience in leading a PEPFAR-funded MHPSS and GBV Programme, an advantage
  • Familiarity with MHPSS and GBV programming integration is highly preferred
  • Experience in Providing Technical Assistance to implementing partners
  • In-depth understanding of PEPFAR/USAID priorities, expectations for program results, outcomes, impact, and reporting.
  • Experience in participatory action planning and engagement of stakeholders at national, district, and Community levels.
  • Good data analysis and report writing skills for donor reports, technical briefs and relevant documents.
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, and Power Point).

Supervision and Reporting:

The Advisor – MHPSS will work under the guidance and supervision of the Technical Director – Priority Populations.
