GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING TEACHER

A leading Lusaka based Private co-educational, School, which provides an internationally recognized education to a culturally diverse, globally-minded student in Lusaka is looking for a reliable dedicated and experienced and   suitably qualified individual to join the Teaching Staff   as a Guidance and Counseling  Teacher  .The ideal candidate   should possess a thorough understanding of effective teaching practices.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and maintain strong counseling ethics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Experience in counseling-related record keeping.
  • Ability to identify and creatively address issues.
  • Strong networking skills.
  • Ability to assess and make appropriate referrals where necessary.
  • Perform daily scheduling tasks and complete a daily tracking sheet.
  • Exhibit effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to submit detailed and conscientious annual departmental budgeting plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Guidance and Counseling with Civic Education as a
  • Teaching subject is strongly preferred.
  • Maintain current Zambian licensure as a counseling practitioner.
  • Able to communicate effectively in  English.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in counseling children.
  • Experience in successful counseling in a school set-up is essential
  • Must have a TCZ License
  • Counselor must at least have a ZCC license.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Works with the Schools Members of Staff   to develop a termly and annual Work Plan  that meets the needs of students while preserving sound instructional practice.
  • Assists students and parents in the course selection process.
  • Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
  • Works to assist students in overcoming educational handicaps.
  • Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Works with students, both individually and in groups, in the solution of problems related to instructional difficulties
  • Works with the Heads of Departments and Head teachers   to disseminate educational, occupational, and  other  information consistent with graduation goals and – when needed
  • Assists students in making applications to college and other post-secondary schools.
  • Makes recommendations to Universities and colleges for admission and Scholarships.
  • Counsels students in the areas of educational and vocational planning.
  • Refers students to other schools, community agencies, or professionals capable of rendering services not available at the school.
  • Assist the School’s Principal with scheduling and conducting parent-student conferences at least annually regarding individual Graduation Plans.
  • Enters/Updates all high school transcripts into the Data base system promptly

PASTORAL

  • Maintain good discipline (in line with the behavior policy) within his/her classes, in co-operation with others and the School as a whole, in order to uphold the ethos of the school.
  • Safeguard the health and safety of the children and promote their well-being at all times
  • Register and monitor learners’ attendance.
  • Promote the personal and social well-being of individual learners and any class or group of learners assigned to him/her.
  • Provide guidance and advice to learners on educational and social matters.
  • Make records of, and reports on, the personal and social needs of learners including incident records/files
  • Communicate and consult with parents, and others concerned with the welfare and progress of the learners under his/her care.
  • Participate in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above, whether during or outside school hours.
  • Attend assemblies, parent-teacher conferences, orientation evenings, and events as appropriate.
  • Ensure children are wearing the correct uniform according to the school’s Dress Code and to be seen to be supporting and promoting the school’s Dress Code.
  • Promote and uphold the school’s Vision & Mission statements.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate in the appraisal of his/her performance and that of other teachers according to the School’s appraisal policy.
  • Regularly review his/her methods of Counseling and teaching.
  • Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development as a teacher as appropriate.
  • Provide professional development/ staff training as required in the field of Technology Integration

STAFF MEETINGS

  • Participate in all whole staff meetings / CPD sessions and all meetings which relate to the teacher’s professional duties whether during or outside school hours.

MANAGEMENT

  • Contribute as appropriate to the professional development of other teachers and non-teaching staff, including the induction of teachers new to the school.
  • Co-ordinate or manage the work of other teachers, assistant teachers, or non-teaching staff when required.
